Mutated Chosen Chaos Marine
|
I have my own renegade chapter, the Ecstasy Lords, who are a Slaanesh dedicated warband that recently escaped the Eye of Terror during the ensuing Chaos caused by the 13th Black Crusade. So yeah. Anyways, I started writing a backstory for why they turned to Chaos. Their Chapter was called the Shadow Raptors beforehand and was lead by Cyphus Te'are, who developed a cult of personality around him in the years before his turn to Chaos. C&C is appreciated.
"Chapter Master!" cried out Librarian Antonius, scurrying toward the imposing figure in front of him. "There is something in there! Something ancient! The threat of it is as great to the body as the mind!"
Cyphus turned toward Antonius, regrading him curiously. Realizing he was barely making any sense, Antonius breathed in deeply and said, "The Astropath felt a disturbance in the Temple just as the Vindicators reported breaking through. I concentrated on it, trying to identify the threat. I left my physical form and tried to investigate. By the time I reached it, the Vindicators were destroyed and their escorts were dead. I focused on the center of the temple..."
"What happened?" asked Cyphus, leaning closer to Antonius. He noticed the Librarian's nose was bleeding and his eyes blood shot. In the single hour since Cyphus had last seen him it seemed as though he had aged years leaving his face wrinkled and gaunt. Antonius stammered and finally said, "It fought back. All of the servitors in the room went mad, spouting binary and finally dying. The Astropath screamed. His nose and lips bled; his skin burnt and twisted; finally he cocked back his head and screamed and he was just... "
Cyphus grabbed the Librarian's shoulders and got face to face with him. "Tell me what happened. I need to know."
"He twisted and grew. His flesh peeled and eyes exploded. Horns sprouted from his head and a pair of wings unfolded from his back. And it wasn't the Astropath anymore. He grabbed me, physically and psychically and told me he needed to know everything. He needed my memories and mind. I fought back and saw my home planet burn, my family's charred corpses among the thousands of dead. I let him in," Antonius finished.
The Chapter Master didn't hesitate. He drew his holy plasma gun, with which he'd mastered the ability to use one handed. The codicier screamed and Cyphus granted him the Emperor's mercy with two direct head shots. Cyphus then turned toward his loyal Captain. "I want you to find the finest squad of Terminators. They need to all be veterans, with a minimum of twenty years of service each. If they've encountered the warp before and kept their sanity, even better."
Janus polished his chainfist, carefully removing the dried blood and viscera from the tiny blades. Hi squadmate Cyril was doing the same. He had recently grinded through a Carnifex and got a large deal of gunk on the blade. "Tyranid guts smells worse than a dump on Necromunda," he complained.
"Suck it up," replied Calidus, nudging Cyril in the shoulder. "At least you didn't have to fight Dark Eldar. Their weapons are designed to inflict pain, not to kill. Whenever I think about it my chest starts stinging again."
Cyril hit Calidus on the shoulder and said, "Come on, I had to fight something three times my height when in this armor. All you had to do was go up against some pansy Eldar. Their bones are like glass. On Kith I killed twenty of them."
"It wasn't that big," skeptically replied Domitan, joining in on the conversation. "And it only hit you once too. Also, we all got a lot of kills on Kith."
"So your saying that you'd prefer to get hit by a Carnifex once instead of a Dark Eldar once?" asked a smiling Janus. "That sounds like a good idea."
"I didn't say that. I was just saying that-" Suddenly the bunker door swung open and Captain Theron of the 1st Company stepped inside with Sergeant Vlad behind him. "Attention!" he yelled and all of the Battle Brothers immediately faced the Captain and saluted him. "There is a possible Chaos Infestation in the Center Complex of the Temple. The Vindicators sent to break through have been destroyed and their escort slain. Your squad and your squad alone has been selected to assist Chapter Master Cyphus in personally purging the infestation."
"Thank you Captain Theron," said Vlad. "Alright men. You have five minutes to completely suit up, prepare your weapons, and meet Chapter Master Cyphus and I in the Southern Entrance to the Central Complex. Let's move!"
There was an immediate scurry as Janus, Calidus, Domitan, Cyril, Basilius, and Trainius rushed to get their armor. Calidus got into his armor first and began loading his Cyclone Missile Launcher with Kraks and Frags, as he called them. Meanwhile Domitan checked his Heavy Flamer and put two extra fuel canisters in his ammo pack, just in case. Janus himself rushed over to his own armor, a servitor helped to put each part on one at a time. His black carapace connected to it and it no longer felt like armor but rather a second layer of skin. He finally attached his chain fist and grabbed five clips of Stormbolter ammunition.
The squad marched out and met up with Cyphus and Vlad. They were fully armored, but Cyphus was notably wearing only standard Power Armor rather than a Tactical Dreadnought suit. In one hand was a plasma gun and in the other a power sword. Vlad was similarly armed, carrying a power axe and combi-meltagun. "Alright," said Cyphus. "You know the drill. Let's go."
They walked inside through a great arch that cultists had engraved with thousands of depictions of strange daemons and horrific visions. Cities made entire of flesh; landscapes destroyed in plumes of blue flame; the Emperor rendered a gnarled skeleton atop the golden throne. "If there are any words engraved on the wall don't read them. If anything tries to speak to you don't listen. If your battle brothers show any mutations grant them the Emperor's mercy."
The squad walked past two Vindicators that had been charred black and ripped apart. The ground was littered with the corpses of the two Tactical Squads that had been tasked with protecting the vehicles. The joints of their armor was ripped in precise locations, such as the joints, eyes, and Imperial insignias. "Nothing could've killed these warriors with no causalities," said Vlad. "There were twenty Marines and two well armed vehicles."
"Daemons don't leave bodies," Cyphus grimly replied. "Stand firm men."
They finally reached the great doors the two Vindicators had blown open before their destruction. Behind them was a great, lavishly decorated temple, the walls covered in thousands of colorful illustrations depicting events long forgotten and disasters to come. There was a single, small wooden door blocking entry to the very center of the Temple. In front of it stood a short, hunched man.
Before the squad could open fire on him, he cocked his head toward the group and screamed. The scream was inhuman, sounding like a thousand creatures shrieking at once. He exploded in a spray of viscera and a plume of smoke. "Fire!" screamed Cyphus, shooting into the pillar of smoke with his plasma gun. The smoke faded to reveal a horrific creature. It was three times as tall as an Astartes with a muscular body, a slanted bovine head, and four arms. In each arm was a sword, whip, or claw. The head had six horns, three on each side, protruding from the lower sides of its head. It had no eyes but there was a fanged mouth with a long grasping tongue.
Its skin was glistening and pink, with the occasional white on the extremities or purple on areas where muscle pressed up against the skin. It cackled and raised its arms toward the sky. Suddenly floor boards began to rip near the corners of the room and strange creatures stirred in the shadows. Finally, the noise climaxed and the floor burst open while the creatures in the shadows jumped out. At least forty Daemonettes came out of hiding, shrieking, cackling, and roaring. They were lithe humanoids with slender forms and sinister claws and talons for hands. Their faces were gnarled and hideous with sharp teeth and red eyes.
Without hesitation, they charged. The group was swarmed by the Daemons, but they fought back. With a swing of his chainfist Janus decapitated two and he blew away a third with his storm bolter. Calidus was firing off frag missiles wildly while Basilius and Cyril protected his flanks. Domitan decimated the creatures with his Heavy Flamer, lighting them ablaze and sending them clawing and running in every direction.
Janus moved toward Cyphus, trying to protect the Chapter Master. Suddenly, the floor under Trainius buckled and ripped open. A dozen or so of the creatures were underneath and grabbed at him wildly. He tried to fire at them, only for one to grab his hand and another to snatch away his storm bolter. The Terminator cleaved one in two with his chainfist, but he was quickly overwhelmed and slowly dragged into the opening. Holstering his storm bolter, Janus reached out and grabbed him. "Hang on!" he yelled, trying to fend them off his Battle Brother with his fist.
One Daemonette leapt onto Janus' back and wrapped a claw around his neck, threatening to break it. In response, Janus let go of Trainius and broke the creature's own neck. Trainius screamed and plunged into the darkness. Meanwhile, Domitan was ambushed by two Daemonettes hiding behind a large vase decorating the room. One grabbed his face and cracked his helmet while another attacked his heavy flamer. The resulting explosion killed Domitan and four Demonettes instantly in a gigantic plume of fire. The extra ammo Domitan had packed exploded as well, lighting Vlad ablaze. He fell to the ground and was mobbed, his armor shredded to pieces by seven of the creatures.
"Move toward my position!" cried out Cyphus, now near Basilius and Calidus. Cyril was struggling against a tide of the Daemons. He shot two to pieces and ripped another ones head off but they were too strong. He was knocked prone and went on the defense, trying to parry and dodge every one of the ferocious attacks. His leg armor was ripped open and a group of the creatures began to feast on his thigh. Janus shot away three of them and killed one more with his power fist before grabbing Cyril and dragged him toward Cyphus.
Cyphus and his group concentrated fire on the Daemons nearest to Janus, blowing them apart in the dozens. Soon Janus reached the group and joined in. Finally the Daemonettes had taken too many causalities and were reduced to less than a quarter of their previous number. They all shrieked in unison and evaporated into thin air, retreating to the warp. The Giant Daemon guarding the door hissed in annoyance and stepped aside before disappearing into thin air.
"Why did it flee?" asked Calidus. "It wasn't injured and we were."
"The ways of the warp are strange and heretical," Cyphus replied. His answer sounded rehearsed.
"Or it wanted us to go inside," Basilius said. "I'm not a coward, and I'll go inside first if you ask it of me. But it seems strange that it would just let us inside."
Janus leaned over Cyril's body. A major artery and several veins in his leg had been cut and even his super human body couldn't stop the bleeding. Furthermore, the wound seemed tainted. It was swollen and purple, oozing strange pus. "He's dead," said Cyphus, clasping Janus on the shoulder. "You have done well Battle Brother Janus. It wasn't your fault he died. Lets go inside. Follow my lead."
Cyphus took a deep breath and opened the door. He half expected some hideous Daemon to grab him with a pink tentacle and drag him into its open maw. Instead, there was nothing. It was a simple room with a six sided wooden desk/table in the center. There was a red mat on it, as well as two candles and a symbol of Slaanesh. Beyond that, it was empty.
Calidus, Janus, and Basilius followed the Chapter Master inside. Strangely, Cyphus removed the glove portion of his power armor and gently touched the table with the tip of his finger. He screamed and fell to the floor, sobbing. Immediately the three Terminator opened fire on the Shrine of Slaanesh, blowing it apart with dozens of bolter rounds as well as two Krak Missiles.
Cyphus stared at the ruins of the shrine and screeched, raising his power sword. Before Calidus could react he cut the Terminator in half while blowing apart Basilius with two shots of his plasma gun. In horror Janus tried to flee, but Cyphus impaled him through the back. "You fools," he hissed.
Assuming people like this enough to comment I'll post a second part.
