So this round I found myself up against some Vulkan marines, fun fun. Here's his list:
Vulkan
Chaplain, Terminator Armor
6 Terminators, Thunder Hammer / Storm Shield
LandRaider Crusader
Venerable Dread, Heavy Flamer, MultiMelta
10 Tactical Marines, MultiMelta, Flamer, Rhino
(x2)
10 Scouts, Heavy Bolter, Sniper Rifles, Camo Cloaks
Vindicator
Vindicator
Oh jeez, 2 vindicators will EAT my squads alive. Luckily we're on the city fight table! Granted, my past luck with this table is such that i've only ever one game on it, so I am not going into this too pleased.
Here's the mission, anyway.
Mission 2: Occupation
Spearhead Deployment
The table is sectioned off into quarters. The player who holds the most table quarters when the game ends wins. In this mission only troops count as scoring units. Only troops can contest table quarters. Who ever has the most scoring units in a table quarter at the end of the game controls that quarter. One unit may not hold multiple table quarters. Vehicles are not scoring units.
Win/loss/Draw points are the same as last game.
Bonus Points:
+1 Point for every Elite and Fast attack choice still alive at end of game.
+1 Point for keeping any
HQ unit alive until end of game.
+1 Point for every Table quarter held.
So I win the rolloff and decide to go first. I need to do some serious
LoS jumping if I want to stay alive long enough to get those Vindi's safely knocked out. Also, that ridiculous little deathstar in the crusader over there is going to need taking care of. Here's my deployment:
Devs in the ruins, Pred behind cover but free to move. Squads similar to last time, with meltas/fists in front of the lightning claws, and my own deathstar in the middle.
He decides to be ballsy (his own words) and put both the predator AND the dreadnought on one of the minibuildings on the board. He deploys the rest as such. 5 man (with
MM) in the bunker (he was super excited about the bunker) and the other 5 in their rhino. the other squad does not break up, and is in its rhino at the top of the board. He also is prepared to use the actual rules for roads, which i dont mind, although no one at my gaming store does (we're a bunch of casuals

)
He then infiltrates his snipers into the ruined building.
I apologise ahead of time, I have no pics for either of our turn ones, as they were *relatively* uneventful. Not much in terms of dynamic movement happened.
Night Lords Turn 1
The two groups split,
HQ and two squads moving around the south, and the other two squads moving north.
I open fire. My predator at his predator, and wreck it. A good start.
The devastators get 4 pens on his dreadnought. Okay, cool. I then get two stuns and two Explodes! He opts to have me reroll the Explodes (venerable). I get another Explode result anyway. An even better start.
Vulkan Marines Turn 1
He jets his Landraider 18" down the road. Shuffling of some, rhino up north moves into the top quarter. Snipers shoot at and kill two of the Fist squad's marines.
He is already somewhat rejected at the loss of his two vehicles.
Night Lords Turn 2
My northernmost fist squad pounces on the rhino, moving as close as possible. the lightning claws stay behind cover.
The southern squads all move towards the Land Raider. Ballsy of my own.
My predator rips lasbolts across the board at the rhino not about to be melta'd, and explodes it, killing one marine inside.
The Meltaguns then wreck said rhino, and the other marines immobilize the land raider. ah, not what I wanted, but still good.
The fist squad that just wrecked the rhino roll a 6 for their terrain test, assault, kill 3 and make them flee off the board. Another good turn for me.
Vulkan Marines Turn 2
So his terminators disembark, chafing at the shots fired upon their precious land raider. The vindicator nearest the obliterated tactical squad pivots in place and lines up a shot on the fist squad.
He blows 8 of them to pieces. Leaving only the 2 meltaguns and the Priest.
So I see that he's about to unload stuff including rending and a multimelta on my squad. So I do what any rational player would do, and use Shield of Sanguinius. And roll snake eyes. But it's okay, the wound is worth it! ... except that the squad about to get nailed is under half an inch out of range. Hurray, I perilsed myself for no payoff.
2 die from total shooting, and then they get assaulted and wiped out. Vulkan accounts for 4 himself.
(Somehow I have no picture of that combat... Apologies)
Night Lords Turn 3
I queue up for an all out charge on his deathstar. Both my own and the lightning claw squad. The meltagunners move towards the first vindicator. My heavy support, now bereft of targets, start firing at his squad in the bunker. They only kill 1. Meanwhile, I blow up the first vidicator, and narrowly avoid killing my gunners.
My squads assault his, and my captain manages a brutal 0 wounds. Vulkan then kills 3 more marines (honor guard, so 2 power weps and the lightning claws) but they get to strike back.
Total results of the combat end up with the terminators dead, chaplain with a wound left, and vulkan taking two as well.
Vulkan Marines Turn 3
His second vindicator, seeing the brutal death his companion suffered, targets the perpetrators. He manages to kill one of the meltagunners.
Vulkan whiffs in combat and then dies, as does the chaplain. Meanwhile, the last troop squad has been running towards the bunker, and hide inside.
Night Lords Turn 4
I get another marine from the bunker, and they flee 5", not quite leaving the shelter. I explode the second vindicator, and all of my prospective assaults fall short
All hail, the slayers of 3 tanks and 10 tactical marines
Not quite able to charge the scouts
Vulkan Marines Turn 4
The retreating bunker boys go off the board. The scouts kill one of the assault marines as a last hurrah before they get assaulted.
Night Lords Turn 5
I queue up to assault into the bunker but then am told that I can't..(bunker rules, i have to crack it before I assault it apparently)
I assault the scouts, killing 6 but losing 2 myself.
Howling at the gates... Come out and play, my pretties
Vulkan Marines Turn 5
The remaining scouts die, and he decides to call it rather than roll, not wanting to be fully tabled.
I owned 2 table quarters and contested his, giving me the win.
Bonus Points:
+1 Point for every Elite and Fast attack still alive at end of game (two sang priests)
+1 Point for keeping any
HQ alive at end of game. (Unfortunately, it was ruled that my honor guard did not count, so only two here)
+1 point for every table quarter held (two)
16 points total for my second game win!
Hope you enjoyed it, game 3 coming soon.
