News At 23:00
Imperial Broadcast Network

Good evening. Reconnaissance satellites orbiting Slingshot V reported early Wednesday the presence of Necrons and Tyranids on the surface, posing a threat to Imperial navigational stations on the planet. Imperial Guard under the command of the The Red Fox and a Blood Angel detachment lead by the famed Librarian Mephisto transitioned to the area. Our correspondent, Ed Chatty is still inserted with the Blood Angels and filed this report.

This is Ed Chatty reporting. I am moving up with Mephisto and his Blood Angels. Red Fox infantry is following close behind. The word is that the Tyranids have been sighted moving this way.

In the distance I can see a dust cloud and... wait! I see a mob of Genestealers coming! And some shadowy figures... Necrons. I see Necron warriors over to the right and more Genestealers. I hope the Astares bolters fire true - otherwise it could get messy.

The Blood Angels have stopped now, setting their position. The IG are deploying too.

I am now told that there is definitely a Necron force on the right, backed up with heavy firepower.

The Genestealer hoard has broached the gap ahead. I hear bolts slamming shut all up and down the Blood Angel line.

The Blood Angels have opened up - I don't know if you can hear me; the noise is deafening. Genestealers are dropping. Their Broodlord looks like... might be the Silver Beast of Braeloe. What ever it is, it is angry. We're being ordered to put on our gas masks as Biovores have been sighted.

The Genestealers have been decimated but their BroodLord is still coming. Now a second pack of Genestealers is pouring over a rise to our front. The Blood Angel Baal Predator isn't waiting - it is charging forward.

The Blood Angel troopers are holding their position and it looks like their bolters are blessed in their accuracy.

The Predator has stopped. Someone says it has thrown a track and is immobilized. The last Genestealer is staggering toward the Blood Angels.

Mephisto has stepped out of his Land Raider and is moving forward. Now the rest of the Blood Angels are following.

There is a dark shadow welling up to my left near the Red Fox... Necrons! Necrons have teleported directly in front of the IG line!

I can hear the whine of the Baal Predator's Assault Cannons now. It's pouring rounds into the Necron Warrior line.

Somehow the Silver Beast has gotten past our front and is threatening the IG mortar position. Wait, the mortar men got 'em! They blew that beast to pieces!

I must say, the cooperation between the Imperial forces is impressive. An IG Sentinel moved up behind Mephisto's Land Raider and gave cover fire.

The Red Fox tanks put withering fire onto the Necron Immortals and their Lord who so audaciously appeared to their front.

I hear loud shouting to my front. It's the Death Company! They have charged out of the Land Raider and are following Mephisto into the Necron fire line. This is a glorious sight. Necrons are falling.

The Tyranids have been crushed, and now the Death Company is annihilating the Necrons. Mephisto has moved around behind the Necron left and is ripping them apart.

Yes, the Necrons are pulling back! This is a great day for Imperial arms! All hail the Emperor. This is Ed Chatty reporting live from Slingshot V Sector 12.

After 11 years of reading Batreps, I'd have to say this is one of the most impressive. Succinct, enjoyable, and dramatic text backed up by clear and illustrative photos of the armies. The news reporter schtick seems to work well You even made me root for the BA, an army that I've always had a sore spot for since they've been beating the pants off of me for years!

The only thing that could have made this a perfect batrep would have been for the IG and 'Nid armies to have been painted. But based on the IG and bug models that were painted, both of those armies will look really nice when they are done.

Kudos!

Awesome battle report, really a pleasure to read! The narrative somehow made me think of a Warhammer 40k Orwell... (I imagined it in a similar fashion^^)

Was nice, but one thing, You say Mephiston came out of the land raider and then the death company later. Mephiston isn't an independent character therefore he can't join squads. or maybe i misread it, who knows...

You're right. He's a unit of one like a Lone Wolf, not an IC and therefore cannot join/attach nor share a ride.

@ciaotym:
1. Minor thing: The Pred tracked itself on a 'rise'? By scale a 4 or 5 foot berm. It is one of those gray areas as players call it, but I think minor rises and low walls should *not* cause Dangerous checks for vehicles.

2. I do like the 'reporter on the spot' format. Tallarn Commander stated pretty much what I'd say. Good work.

Gotta make sure how to deploy Mephy correctly!

Actually, in the tumult of the battle, Chatty got it wrong about Mephisto. As you can see in an early pic, Mephisto was following the Land Raider. As for the Baal Predator becoming immobilized, it ran up on some jagged rocks footing the berm, a feature both sides were aware of. Nasty break. Thanks for the comments.
