Hallo Dakka.
Today I played my first game of Malifaux.
I know lots of people looking for their next wargame since recent events and I hope this small review will help them decide.
Right first things: Small amount of models. Helps a lot since everyone is unique and has tons of character.
The card mechanic is an absolute blast once you get the hang of it and creates lot of tension especially when a joker gets pulled or when the players begin to cheat fate which means a bad card won't ruin your turn.
The models are brilliant and the artwork even better IMO. It's a very dark feel. I don't know much about the background but I'm borrowing the rulebook and reading it soon.
I highly recomend this to anyone looking for a new game. I enjoyed it imensely.
If any players wan't to know the sides and such it was:
Rasputina
Ice Golem
Horecat Pride
Wendigo
December Acloyte
Vs
The Dreamer/Lord Comby bits
Abysal nightmare (I honestly fogot it's name)
And something else... X3 all the same
Strategy was Recontiere for The cult of December and Treasure Hunt for the Dreamer.
Schemes was Sieze ground (or similar name) for the Cult while the Dreamer chose none.
Ended up a tight game and 1VP to the Cult of December! Yay!

I am double edge kinda guy. I like either medieval, or Sci-fi, I rarely favor anything in between, but because of the Comparatively low monetary cost and the great rulesystem, I may get into Maulifex. grats on the win

Malifaux is really great; I played 40k for 4 months and then dumped it to get into Malifaux. For me, the difference was like night & day.
The rules are really tightly designed, and pretty intuitive. Each model has a lot of character (model-wise and mechanics-wise), and the startup cost is really low. Games usually take less than 2 hours. I dunno, I just really love Malifaux. I can't get enough of it, and I feel like I got on my feet with the game almost right out of the gate, when after 3 months of 40k I felt like I still didn't have enough models to "really" play the game.

I know right? I've read the background in the mainrulebook and it is awesome. Incredibly well wrote. Bit disapoint Rasputina seems like a fall girl from it being knocked unconsious a lot.
I think I will end up playing this more than I do any of GW's main games and possibly more than the historicals or specialist games I do.

Welcome to Malifaux! If you haven't already, I'd definitely recommend checking out the Wyrd forums:
http://www.wyrd-games.net/forum/index.php
Great community over there, and home to a plethora of info on Malifaux. I'd also recommend checking out the tactica Wiki if you're curious about how a master/minion plays:

One thing I love about Malifaux is how killing each other isn't always the objective. I've played matches in tournaments where my opponent and I barely clashed at all, and instead spent most of the game dashing around the board planting evidence (and me reclaiming Malifaux, what an overly ambitious scheme!) Of course being able to modify your duel totals via cheating fate is always nice too. Anyway, I absolutely love the game, and I'm glad to hear you do as well.

Thanks. I felt I should give the tiny review to try and sway people looking for their new wargame.

Malifaux is a great lil game, zombie hookers, and cheating is encouraged.
What's not to love?
I run the Vikkies, and a bunch of Outcasts to go with em.
Pretty Models. I should paint them one of these days.

Yeah, I just dumped 40k to get into WM/H, and that led me to Malifaux (though I'm not dumping WM/H). I run the Guild (Lady Justice and Sonnia Criid, currently, but eventually working my way up to owning the entire guild).
