The local group is starting an escalation league starting at 500 points and increasing by 250 every week. At 500 points, you don't need an Epic Hero/Legendary to lead, but at least a Captain in one of the units to lead then. I'm thinking of this list:

3c of Ghostly Riders
180 Points

6c of Angmar Orcs
Shields, Captain, Orc Taskmaster
195 Points

Buhrdur
125 Points

500 Points

Buhrdur hiding.

Buhrdur's done pretty well for me, Ron. I wouldn't take the riders at 500 though. You would probably want at least 4 or 5 companies in order to be able to kill things without getting shot to death. Angmar Orcs are cool. Maybe some clansmen instead of the riders?

Edit: typo doh!

Buhrdur throw rock.

Yeah, I guess 3c really are not enough. I'm not sure about models though. I know Bill uses the Corsairs, but I don't really like those models. The way the the Ghostly Legion are painted as real people in the Battlehost book is pretty cool though.

So I've tried this list a couple of times and I like it so far:

5c of Angmar Orcs w/Shields and a Captain
150 Points

4c of Carn Dum Barbarians
120 Points

Buhrdur
125 Points

Allied: Kardush the Firecaller
100 Points

495 Points

Buhrdur is sick at this points level. When he makes contact, he smashes stuff aside like nothing.

Carn Dum are pretty nasty fighters for their cost with pretty good defense too.

Angmar Orcs add numbers.

Kardush is interesting. The Spells of Ruin add some cool ranged damage and Dark Fury and Shield Breaker is pretty fun with Carn Dum.

So, having been "reintroduced" to wonders of Wraith magic. I've decided I need a Wraith instead of Kardush. That means dropping an Orc unit, but that is it. I don't really want to use Khamul unless everyone else does. I'm thinking the Tainted at this point. He is pretty pretty good when he starts throwing Sunder Spirit and Visions of Woe around. Or the Dwimmerlaik; what little might my opponent has will dwindle even faster. Thoughts on which Wraith?

The Tainted/Dwimmerlaik
125 Points

4c of Angmar Orcs w/Shields and a Captain
130 Points

4c of Carn Dum Barbarians
120 Points

Buhrdur
125 Points

500 Points

Also thinking about what to do when we increase to 750 points. I'm thinking about switching Burhdur for Gulavhar and fitting in more Carn Dum. Maybe a Shade(all your fight sucks too ) or a second Wraith.

Maybe Something like this:

The Tainted
125 Points

4c of Carn Dum
120 Points

4c of Carn Dum w/Captain
170 Points

4c of Angmar Orcs w/Captain and Shields
130 Points

Gulavhar, the Terror of Arnor
200 Points

745 Points. I was kind of hoping for a second wraith. Maybe I'll keep Buhrdur instead of Gulavhar and drop a captain to fit another one in...

No!!!

Dwimmerlaik. Keep the captains at 750. And next time? Keep the Carn Dum out of the forest so you can at least *try* and charge. I promise not to bring Khamul anymore (I'm just doing it because everyone else has done it to me). :p

I'm actually thinking of taking the Dark Marshal instead of the Tainted or the Dwimmerlaik. Inspiring Leader(Master) and handing out Fight 5 to friendly formations FTW!

Meh.

yeah, that's all I have to say. In fact, I will say it again.

Meh.

Yeah, it was a thought. It just seems like a nifty thing to have at this points level(when points for taskmasters are in short supply). I'll have to try him tomorrow evening.

So I tried out a my 750 list(Dwimmerlaik instead of Tainted) against a dwarf list and lost by a few points because of failed focus roll at a critical time and my leader was killed.

Thoughts:

-Wraith magic FTW!

-The Dwimmerlaik's ability was kind of useless. There was not a whole lot of might on the board and I did not roll high enough the one time it was enabled.

-The Angmar Orcs were useless. I should ally some Morannon Orcs instead.

-Gulavhar wrecked face. He has really high strength and a lot of attacks. Add on free Heroic Fights and I love this sucker. The fact that he flies means he picks his fights and it was pretty easy to use terrain/other formations to never give my opponent's 2 ballista a bead on him(even with 360 LoS from being in a building).

-Hate Dwarf Warriors! Stinkers are stronger and a heck of a lot tougher than any infantry I had on the table. Even with Berserk, my Carn Dum needed 6s to kill them to his 5+.

I'm also starting to think of what to use at 1k points. I'm considering using the "Hordes of Angmar" battlehost. Something like this:

Battlehost: Hordes of Angmar 75 Points

The Witchking of Angmar
200 Points

4c of Carn Dum w/Hornblower
135 Points

4c of Carn Dum w/Captain
170 Points

3c of Angmar Orcs w/Shields and Captain
110 Points

3c of Angmar Orcs w/Shields and Captain
110 Points

Gulavhar, the Terror of Arnor
200 Points

1000 Points.

Probably not enough bodies though. Thoughts?

If you want the BH, I would drop Gulavhar and take more orc companies in both formations. Then you add G back in at 1250. If you would rather keep G, I would beef up one formation of orcs up to 5 or so and add Buhrdur. (which would mean losing the BH bonus, but at 1250 you can get it back)

Buhrdur hiding.

So I played the Dwarf player again with dual wraiths and it was quite overkill. The Dwimmerlaik is starting to bug me. His ability is not anywhere near consistent enough(or maybe my luck sux). I want to try something else for giggles though.

4c of Carn Dum w/Captain
170 Points

4c of Carn Dum w/Captain
170 Points

4c Angmar Orcs w/Shields and Captain
130 Points

Cave Troll
75 Points

Cave Troll
75 Points

Burhdur
125 Points

Burhdur leading. Probably a dumb list, but it looks funny.

At 1k, I think I'll ally the Dwimmerlaik on a Fell beast, but I am not sure what else to take with it.

So I'm a bit of a sucker for trying new lists. Current idea:

The Tainted
125 Points

The Dwimmerlaik
125 Points

Druzhag the Beastcaller(Ally)
100 Points

4c of Carn Dum Barbarians
120 Points

4c of Carn Dum Barbarians
120 Points

4c of Morannon Orcs w/Shields and Orc Drummer(Ally)
115 Points

4c of Ghostly Riders w/Captain
290 Points

995 Points
