Painting Within the Lines

Hello Dakka! Today I've got one of the first minis I painted for my new Chaos Space Marine army; the Skull Champion for my Berzerker squad. Painted as a variant of the traditional World Eater scheme, I painted his left shoulderpad in the style of my other Reavers (lava-lightning). I wanted to use the Reavers scheme because I thought it looked stunning and was very unique...unfortunately, I'm not exactly the best at pulling off the lightning effect on the shoulderpads and weapons yet. I'm thinking of adding some Skull White to both the shoulderpad and the power weapon; what do you all think of my efforts so far?

The molten armor effect you've got going there is something to be proud of for sure, if nothing else on the very nice looking model

I think we need better photographs.

Still, the Reavers have the best of the Chaos colour schemes imo :p

@Henners; You seem to know what you're talking about (I don't mean this sarcastically! I really don't know jack about photographing tiny miniatures!). What would you recommend I change? I have a very simple point and shoot digital camera. I know how to use the Macro function (or am I still doing it wrong? lol)

Sorry, I don't know at all; any nice pics of my minis have been taken by my sister

She err, does photography and stuff... I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

Check out the tutorial section. there are a couple of threads about taking decent pics.

Here's what i used (pics are in my Crimson Fist and 'Cron galleries)

Photo tent:

Then just get a couple of cheap desk lamps and whack some bright bulbs in them (100w or equivilent). The tent spreads the light around to get rid of shadows.

Also try using a tripod for your camera to make sure it is proper steady for th pics. Finally make sure you use the macro setting and put your camera right up close to the model. Dont zoom in if you can avoid it.

I used the equipment above and got the results in my galleries (which i admit are not perfect but miles ahead of what i was doing before) within the first couple of hours of practice shots.
