Question for you Oblivion vets out there: When you complete the main quest does it actually close all the Oblivion gates across the land?
In other words if I want some more sigil stones should I get them now before carrying on or just not worry about it?

Yes, they close according to the Wiki. Which I would recommend for any Oblivion fan.

To answer, completing the main quest closes all gates.
So grab the stones before doing it.
The best time to grab stones is after the Dragon Shrine quest, pretty much more gates open than any other part of the game.
I think in total 60 gates can be closed in total. 50 random and 10 fixed.
So you should easily gather what stones you want haha.

Yup pretty much, if you want 100% completion or specific stone(in my bros case chameleon stones) then do it after Dragon Shrine but before leaving Paradise as that could stop more from spawning if you have already closed 20.

God damnit. They keep spawning? So there's no end to them? What's the relevance of the number 20? Some kinda achievement/requirement?

Not quite, at certain parts in the quest more or less will spawn.
After the initial gate at Kavatch is destroyed there is a 25% of a gate spawning and a maximum of 25 can be open at this point.
Progress to after the Dragon Shrine quest to get up to 50 gates appearing with a 50% chance of a gate opening. This is best time to gather stones
After exiting Paradise the percentage drops back to 25% with a max of 20 being open, if however you have already closed 20 random gates no more will spawn.
Complete the main quest and EVERY gate will close.
Hope this made sence.
