I just thought of an idea for a story. This is just a very short prologue in a way (though it takes place after the story). The rest of the story isn't written as an Inquisitorial Report.

Inquisitorial Report-Eastern Fringe Rebellion

This event has shown that even the purest souls (save the God-Emperor's of course) can fall prey to Chaos. Three of the most esteemed Chapter Masters of the Space Marines turned against the Imperium, launching a massive crusade against humanity. Initially the tide was against the Imperium and the Ultima Segmentum was almost completely overrun by the Chaos Space Marines. However, instead of consolidating their grounds and repairing their damaged forces, the Traitors pushed their luck too far and assaulted the heavily guarded Segmentum Solar. They sustained heavy losses and were eventually destroyed at Luna. It was originally thought that the now deceased Ultramarines Chapter Master Marneus Augustus Calgar was leading the Rebellion due to his esteemed position as well as his frequent appearances at the head of large Traitors. However, it was later discovered that the Space Swordfish Chapter Master Devram Slyth Vibianius was responsible. His last words, curiously, were, "For the Emperor!"

Craig wiped some of the sweat off of his forehead and went back to work welding, attaching another panel to the spacecraft. "What is this supposed to be anyways?" he asked. "There's no seats or controls, just a video screen inside and an engine. It doesn't seem like a very practical vehicle." James, the other welder, replied, "A message of peace to aliens. Seriously. It's going to shoot way far out and scientists are hoping that some intelligent aliens will find it. If you press a button by the side of the door it opens up and the screen plays a short message of peace in binary, than English, than Mandarin and than something else. It says we're peaceful and we want to have peaceful contacts and then it shows a map of space pointing to Earth."

"It seems like wishful thinking that it'll ever run into aliens, assuming there even are any. It'll probably hit a planet first or something." Craig put in the last panel and stood back, surveying the vehicle. "Well, it looks like we're done." "Yep," said James, sipping a beer.

Devram hated the name of his Chapter. Space Swordfish? It was ridiculous. He could understand the Space Wolves and tolerate the Space Sharks, but Space Swordfish just sounded idiotic. He had asked if he could change it, but the High Lords of Terra had already listed his Chapter in the great bureaucracy as the Space Swordfish and the entire Chapter would have to be decommissioned and recommissioned to change the name, a process which took twenty years on average. As a result, he was stuck with reports calling him "Space Swordfish Chapter Master Devram," a title he loathed. Suddenly Commander Varin rushed inside Devram's office and yelled, "Chapter Master, we may be under attack! A strange capsule crashed into the barracks and crushed Brothers Typheon and Legois. His Battle Brothers fired on the capsule to no avail and they're not sure what to do!"

"I'll take a look," replied Devram. "Have my servants, I mean the Ad Mech people, ready my personal Land Raider."

Varin rushed out of the room panting and Devram distantly heard him yell orders at several pilots and mechanics. Devram knew the capsule was probably just an old model drop pod that had been caught in orbit until recently. It had happened before when the brand new Astartes started training with the "Steel Rain" tactic. Sometimes they would screw up enough to get caught in orbit for a couple hundred years. Varin walked out of his office and excited the small military base that he lived in. His Land Raider was waiting for him, with it's reinforced haul and additional guns. A servitor opened the door for him and he stepped inside, sitting in a modified, cushioned seat.

Upon arrival at the barracks Devram found there was a small crowd of Marines around the capsule, setting up a defensive perimeter and waiting for orders. Commander Elpidius was there with his signature powerfist and combimelta. The Chapter Master could tell that Elpidius was just itching for the clearance to destroy the thing. "Status Report," ordered Devram, knocking aside a Scout to get a better view of the capsule and the crushed Marines.

"Commander Varin has most likely explained everything to you already. Essentially the capsule landed twenty minutes ago, killing two of my men. His Battle Brothers, unsure of what to do, immediately responded with bolter fire until I gave the order to wait for your orders. Battle Brother Legois is still alive, but it partially crushed. Typheon is assumed dead," said Elpidius. "I would suggest immediate removal of the capsule with melta fire."

"Battle Brother Legois," yelled out Devram, gesturing towards the half crushed Marine. "Do you feel the taint of Chaos gnawing at your very essence? Do you hear whispering voices? Is your body mutating?"

"No, no and no," groaned Legois. "I feel extreme pressure on my legs though if that's important."

"Do you see strange inscriptions on the device? Does it appear unnatural? Is it made of metals you've never seen or heard of before? Is it unusually hot or cold? Does it contain items or devices you've never seen or heard of before?"

Legois writhed and replied, "No, no, no, no and no. I know it is not my place to give orders or make decisions, but may I offer a request? Please remove the item, I can feel my legs and abdomen being crushed."

"Clearly," said Devram. "This item isn't Xenos Tech or Chaos Infused. As a result, it is probably safe to touch. Commander Elpidius, I want you to gently press the button on the item. Do not use your powerfist or combimelta unless I give you the clearance. If you feel yourself dying, please tell me."

Elpidius cautiously approached the capsule and hovered his finger above the button. He was a veteran and a Company Commander, but he still felt fear. However, as always, discipline overcame it and Elpidius forced himself to press the button. A door fell open from the capsule, crushing Legois' upper body with a crunching sound. Inside was a small video screen. It immediately turned on and played a message in binary which Devram couldn't understand the slightest. The message ended and a new message began, this one in Gothic. "Greetings, this is a message from Earth, also known as Terra. We are a race known as humans, or Homo Sapiens, and we bid nonhumans to Earth with a message of peace. We look forward to meeting you."

"God Emperor," muttered Devram. "Terra has been corrupted by Xenos."
