I am a great of of (most) of the final fantasy series (X,X-2,XI,XIV i'm looking at you)
so I was wondering what is your favourite FF and what your worst, and your reasons for doing so.
I for one love FFIV ihave had the DS remakel and am going to do the PSP version (which is closer to the original).
but I hate FFX it's so discusting a whining main charcter (Tidus and Yuna) and the highest gay level yet in the series.

Tactics has real gameplay at least and not "the highest gay level in the series."

Final Fantasy VI (III in the US) was the best one. By far, FF XIII was the worst.

I never liked FF. It was far too complicated for my liking.

I'm a FFI man myself, the best one I would say by far. Gamed out hard on FFXIII before saying screw it and breaking the damned game with a hammer after a few months.
That was last week.

XIII was a waste of time and VII was probably the most overrated game ever created but still good.

VII is my favorite (first one I ever played, has the most memorable characters and events, IMO, and was just an epic experience for me), followed closely by VIII (it had a bit darker and more realistic feel to it, and was definitely a more mature game/story).
the pre-VII games were alright. With the exception of VI, they were all too sword-and-sorcery for my taste (as in they weren't steampunk enough. The occasional airship was cool, but too high-fantasy otherwise. VI itself was pretty good, but not as memorable as VII/VIII.
Post FFVIII games were weak IMO. IX wasn't terrible, or even bad, just not good. I didn't really find the characters or story that interesting, although I feel the setting was perhaps the most interesting. I think what ultimately killed it for me was the animation/art direction they took. The cartoony look was kind of a major downer former. X was just downright terrible, miserable in fact. XI was an mmo, so whatever, XII was alright, but it was basically star wars with airships. After the disappointment of the last few games in the series, I didn't bother w/ XIII. I watched a friend play it for quite a few hours, and it just didn't appeal to me. Seemed way to linear and like a cruddy story. I may pick it up and give it a chance a couple years down the line, when it costs 10 bucks a copy.

The FF series is tough for me.
The first FF game I really focused on (KEEP IN MIND I WAS BORN IN 91!) was FF VII.
Now the seventh game was GOOD, it's just the PEOPLE that played it ruined it for everyone else.
It's like with the movie 300. 300 was a damn good movie, BUT it was ruined by the people who saw it. "This is SPARTA!!" was awesome the way it was delivered. Just AWESOME. ...But holy gak did that line get ruined in 1 day!! It probably holds the record for "Fastest Ruined Line"
So, again I liked 7. It was great, epic, awesome. But far from the best game ever. UGH!!

VIII was the best of the series IMO. It definitely had the best dialogue in the entire series (good dialogue is hard to find in a RPG nowadays). The dialogue and narration made the story feel more like a novel than a RPG. The junction system was odd in the sense that you either loved it or hated it and thus was under appreciated. VII was overrated in my opinion. It was good in the sense that it introduced story and gameplay elements that had a positive affect on later FF titles (as well as other RPGs in general). VII was also one of the first true cinematic RPGS to hit markets. Otherwise it was far from the “be all end all” title that it has been made out to be. Its main flaws was that the story was too predictable (and vague) and general gameplay required too much of a grind to unlock everything. IX was a good game in its own right although underappreciated. IX’s downfall was partly attributed to Square trying too hard to “recreate the magic” by borrowing character design elements from VII and story elements from earlier titles such as VI. Recreate this game with more realistic character designs and voice acting and you’d have a great game for the PSP. X was also good game. Gameplay wise, it was worse than VIII and story wise, was almost as good as VIII (making the game decent overall). I’ve always felt that Xs success was partly attributed to borrowing various story elements from VIII. X was the last “true” FF game IMO. The games after X were not as good in my opinion. I think this is partly due to square deviating from the classic FF template and partly due to FF going overboard with various elements (X-2 was too cheesy, XII lacked a focus on the main character, XIII had atrocious dialogue and story).
