Hi all! My friend Greg and I got together last Friday to have a game of Dystopian Wars. We ended up playing a 800 pt. game using a custom Base Assault scenario. This scenario saw Greg controlling an airfield on one of the islands, using the airfield stats from page 130 of the rule book. My objective was to try to either destroy or capture that airfield, which wasn't going to be easy with Greg's fleet around! We also selected one secret mission apiece, to make things more interesting

. More on those later...
EDIT: Here were our two fleets:
Me: (FSA)
Battleship w/Shield generator
Carrier
2x Cruisers w/ Shield Generators
4x Lee Scout Ships
3x Frigates
4x Frigates
5x Fighters
5x Fighters
5x Torpedo Planes
1x Recon Plane
Greg (FSA)
Battleship w/ rockets
Carrier
3x Cruisers, 2 with rockets, one with shield generator
2x Bombers
2x Bombers
3x Frigates
3x Frigates
5x Fighters
5x Dive Bombers
5x Torpedo Planes
1x Recon Plane
Here is how we were set up:
This is the airbase we would be fighting over:
Turn 1
First turn, Greg advanced his battleship towards the base.
The rest of his fleet generally followed suit:
I had my cruisers re-deploy towards the airbase, cutting accross the wake of my battleship.
Turn 2
This turn, our two battleships squared off at range, doing a point of damage to each other.
The rest of the turn saw both fleets continuing to close. The cruisers bombarded the airfield, hoping to soften it up a little.
Turn 3
My airships started cutting towards the airfield, coming down from the clouds to pound Greg's battleship with their broadsides. They also rocketed the airbase, but failed to cause any harm. Greg's battleship and frigates returned the favor, causing severe damage to the nearest airship. In fact, a lucky hit to the crew compartment all but wiped out this airship's complement of rocket marines!
During the rest of the turn, our frigates dueled with each other, while our tiny flyers endeavored to line themselves up for their attack runs.
Turn 4
This turn was one of the bloodiest in the game! As my forces approached the narrow channel between the islands where the airbase was located, they were hit on two sides by Greg's bombers and frigates. His frigates put up an especially impressive display of gunnery, by sinking one of my cruisers (with a double crit!), and putting a point of damage onto another airship with their ack-ack fire. To add insult to injury, their rocket marines then proceeded to board a second airship. In the bloody fighting that ensued, more than half of the airship's marines fell to the boarders, and the ship itself was forced to haul out of the line as the fierce action continued!
Greg's battleship also lined up a nice shot on my BB, and his gunners really put their backs into making sure they got off as many shots as possible. Unfortunately, their accuracy was horrible, and my battleship escaped harm thanks to her shields:
(Ouch, Greg! We have all been there...)
Turn 5
The final turn started with my battleship patching up the minor damage she had sustained thus far, returning her to full health. Greg then sent in his cruisers to try and put her out of action for good, but their shots were deflected harmlessly by my battleship's protective bubble. Greg's cruisers then swooped in to bomb and torpedo my remaining cruiser, and even with the cruiser's shields and concussion charges she still suffered moderate damage.
My remaining frigates then proceeded to attack the rest of Greg's, in attempt to avenge the cruiser I lost to them!
By this time, Greg's battleship was suffering from severe damage, with several Sturgenium-fueled fires raging on her decks. When my torpedo bombers swept out of the sky and headed directly for her on an attack run, it looked like she might have reached her end! However, my torpedoes must have been severely defective, as they failed to damage Greg's battleship any further.
My surviving airships then descended on the airbase, dropping their remaining rocket marines. Although the fighting was bloody, they succeeded in capturing the base. Victory was mine!
Conclusion
In the end, I won this game thanks to the capture of the airfield, which was worth 300%
VP. Greg and I were both having a heck of a time with getting decent rolls, although Greg was struggling just a little more than I was. Neither one of us achieved our secret objective; Greg was trying to wipe out my frigates, and was trying to destroy all of Greg's ships that were within 12" of the center of the table. However, both of us agreed that having secret and declared objectives made the game much more interesting!
