On a whim I decided to start a small Ork army that I was going to build and paint myself. This is a rather new concept for me as I typically prefer to commission my figures to be painted due to time constraints and a general dislike of painting.

So, this will be a slow (tediously so) project for me that I hope not to burn out on. I really like the Ork figures and of course the modeling possibilities that their brand of technological know-how lends itself to, so I am hoping those two factors will keep me motivated to paint an infantry heavy list.

As I was flipping through the Ork codex I fell in love with the Bloodaxes and their penchant for adorning themselves in various scraps of camouflage. My plan is to incorporate as many bizarre and disjointed types of camo as possible into this army, so if anyone wants to see a specific camo type please feel free to post examples in this blog and if I like the submission I'll work that camo onto my figures.

This initial offering was my test group both in regards to painting Ork skin and to try my hand at camo (which I hadn't done in two years). I went with a variant desert "chocolate chip" pattern on the majority of the figures because that was a pattern I was comfortable with. I plan to blend these eight figures into two large 20X boyz squads so the desert camo will be diluted a bit with other camo patterns. I was able to make 11 boyz from my first box of troops and three remain in various stages of paint. After I finish those three I have a box of 5 Stormboyz that I will tackle next to vary the painting a bit. Ultimately I plan on having 60 Stormboyz in my list. I have some neat ideas for the Stormboyz' rocket packs and can't wait to begin work on those figures.

Anyway, here are the first boyz with their nob. If you have any camo ideas don't be shy about sharing them!

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
