I am prepping a map campaign. I am having trouble figuring the time of a campaign turn and size of the campaign hexes.
If I go 1 Hour(18 kilometers per campaign hex) maintenance/repairs will have a greater effect on the units. Aerospace units will have a faster response time to aid allied forces and would probably only be able to support one battle per campaign turn. Hidden units would only really work for a given battle.
If I go 4 hours(72 kilometers per campaign hex) maintenance/repairs would have a mild effect on the units. Aerospace units will have a longer response time but would have more overall effect against ground units and could support multiple battles per turn(probably not more than 2 or 3). Hidden units might be able to avoid being detected and avoid the battle altogether opposing units would have a chance of not noticing each other.
If I go 8 hours(144 kilometers per campaign hex) maintenance/repairs would have little to no effect. Aerospace units response time will be even longer but the range of the fighters will make reappraisal attacks difficult aside from other aerospace units, aerospace could affect multiple battles per turn with little in the way of limits(rearming/refueling time and battle distance). Hidden units will likely remain so, and opposing units would have a greater chance of not noticing each other.
If I go 12 hours(216 kilometers per campaign hex) maintenance/repair would have almost no effect aside from supply loss. Aerospace units response time will be very long but the fighter range could make aerospace strikes very dangerous and aside from other aerospace units almost impossible to counter, fighters will be able to affect multiple battles with almost no limit as the rearming/refueling time will have little affect in the overall campaign turn. Hidden units will likely remain so, and opposing units are likely to be unaware of each others presence even if setting up camp in the same campaign hex.
Which would you guys prefer?
