I'm interested in starting up Field of Glory, especially after seeing it played at Historicon this year. I'm thinking Dominate Romans with Ancient British as two forces that I could both use and demo with.

Now, I happened upon these Corvus Belli 15mm boxsets while looking for 15mm models, and I happen to like them. The models look decent, and the price isn't too bad either.

I'm looking for anyone with experience in FoG to help me out - would a early Imperial Roman and Ancient British army be balaned against one another?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think that's is a question regarding Field of Glory, but rather history. Although Caesar did initially conquer Britain there were subsequent campaigns by Rome further into Britain.

Historically the Romans fought in Britain till they were finally forced out. I do not see any issue regarding Early Imperial Romans versus Ancient Britain.

By the way, I feel Corvus Belli make some of the best 15mm miniatures. I have their Medieval line.

Good Luck and join the North American Field of Glory Yahoo group. There are a lot of information on that website.

The Early Imperial Roman army is traditionally considered one of Ancients' toughest and this is usually reflected in the rules which give them similar advantages to Space Marines in 40K -- high morale, good weapons, good armour and superior training.

That said, the points should balance out and your Ancient British will get a larger force of cheaper and less capable troops, including Chariots. The chance of getting a balanced match will depend on the ability of the players on each side to play to their armies' strong suits.

Alright, thanks guys.

Edit: Now, if I'm looking to pick up the two starter armies detailed in Legions Triumphant for the Dominate Romans and Ancient British, can anyone offer a good 15mm miniature company, that preferably would break the bank? I know of Essex and Warmodelling, but it looks like the Old Glory army packs would be the cheapest, from what I can find.

Corvus Belli are the nicest Romans around today, but if you are looking for cheaper options, there are many manufacturers of 15mm models.

Old Glory have a bit of a reputation for flash, which might offset the cheapness of the figures. I don't have personal experience, this is just what I've read.

Your best course will be to check some of the sites that collect links to 15mm manufacturers.

The Mad Axeman not only has such a list, he also has a live eBay feed that displays auctions of wargame figures. You might be able to pick up a finished army.

Here's another useful link.

http://fanaticus.org/DBA/index.html

While the site is about DBA it contains a number of good pages about choosing, buying and painting 15mm figures.
