Fresh-Faced New User

I am new to the website and in the last year have gained a considerable interest in wargaming, i'm very new to this and open to any suggestions as to what to play, armies, specific games anything
Interests: Warhammer 40K and Fantasy
Now i've heard that Fantasy in the next few years will receive an extremely large amount of codex changes and that getting into it may be a waste of my money
so here's my questions
In either gamE
What do you play?
Why do you like that army and why do you don't?
What are the pros and cons of different armies and why would you suggest this one or that?
Are there certain things you love about your armies?
For each of the armies you suggest, how would you start each one?
I'm leaning towards 40k but am open to any suggestion
I would like to in the next few years seriously join and game in this community competitevely and would love all the advice you guys have as how to approach that
