KillKrazy has piqued my interest.
No not in that way

In a healthy gaming way by referring in another thread about Horde of the Things
Had a quick Google and will do some more research but if anyone has any experience of the game would be interested to here your thoughts please.

Already have Songs of Blades and Heroes, is it significantly different?

thanks in advance

HOTT (Hordes Of The Things) is based on the DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatis) system by the Wargames Research Group. While I have both rulebooks I can’t remember all the details.

The core concept of the system is that armies are organised into elements classified according to their battlefield role and behaviour, rather than their armour and equipment.

For example, all skirmishing light infantry are classed as psiloi (the Byzantine for light infantry), regardless of the specific equipment they carry.

This simplification is justified by various rationalisations.

Command and Control
At the start of each turn both generals roll a D6 and that is the number of command points they have for their round. A command point is used to move an element, or a formation of contiguous elements. Movement is UGOIGO.

Movement and ranges
These are all expressed in base widths (40mm for a 15mm scale figures element).

Fighting
When an element fights another element, both sides roll a die and add or subtract various factors. There are various results depending on the difference in the compared roll and the type of elements fighting. For instance, Pikes get a bonus for depth, but are more easily disordered when pushed back by an adverse combat result. Whereas light cavalry are nearly impossible to destroy as they can usually run away from whoever attacks them.

Shooting
This works like fighting except that the combat results are different. In general it is very hard to destroy elements just by shooting at them, and shooters can’t be damaged by enemies who don’t have missile weapons.

HOTT adds troop types like Heroes and Magicians to the normal mix.

Sample army lists are given in the book to cover a wide variety of mediaeval and pulp fantasy style armies, ranging from Tolkienian dwarves to John Carter of Mars armies equipped with Radium rifles.

There is also advice about how to make a list for practically any kind of fantasy style army you want. You could probably translate 40K armies like SMs into HOTT. The assault marines would become Blades. The tactical squads would become Bows. Most of the HQ would become Heroes or Magicians.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Thank you for the summary KK
Is really helpful
Have already downloaded the rules but not had a look at them yet

The pic of the pebble army has got me thinking about craft activities to make an army eg out of pasta.
(As long as it is ok with the parents that kids play with their food)

We have an assortment of WHFB models but not enough to make a full army for the game. We have managed to play KoW with them. Also SoB&H which is only a skirmish sized game.

So we could potentially have enough to play HOTT with what we got.

Thanks Malfred
That link was on the blog in my ammended OP
I should have followed it up and got the actual pdf page
