I've got approximately 4000pts of unpainted Space Marines, no skill with a paintbrush whatsoever and I need them all finished as soon as possible. I'm trying to achieve something quick, simple and tabletop quality.

Here are my first two test models:

Any comments or criticism would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Really great stuff, I always loved Imperial Fists.

How'd you go about doing the yellow, BTW?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

As simply as I possibly could!

- Prime white.
- Quickly wash with watered down Sunburst Yellow twice.
- Paint on Army Painter Quickshade, removing any excess with a small brush.

For something so quick they look good. Your highlights on the face are pretty sweet as well.

Looks good for a quick paintjob. How long did it take for both?

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for all the nice comments chaps!

I finished off a few more yesterday afternoon. I've included some WIP pictures as well this time to illustrate how simple and basic the whole process is.

--> Basic, block colours over a white undercoat. I'm an incredibly slow painter, but I imagine for most people this would only take them a matter of minutes. The painting is a little sloppy, and you can see where I made mistakes and covered them up with Iyanden Darksun (the foundation paint):

--> Smothered in Army Painter Quickshade - Strong Tone, with the excess then removed with a small brush. Nice n' greasy looking:

--> Decals, bases and a coat of matt varnish to finish them off:

...and here is the whole test squad completed:

Certainly not fantastic quality, but considering that I have hundreds to paint, very little time and I'm really not very good at painting I think they'll have to do!

Very quick and great results = a win. Also, if this is just a gaming army (even though the painting quality isn't bad) they will look even better with more buddies.

PS: Good to see someone using those old marines.

But I believe your first step, to actually cover them in yellow, is he part where most painters have problem

Thanks for all the nice comments. That's the reassurance I needed to crack on with the rest of them with this paint scheme!

I certainly can't see why not! I think Quickshade definitely gives better results on Orks, Nids etc. but that doesn't mean its impossible.

I've built this whole army from second-hand models bought from eBay so I think almost everything I've got is an old version! Can't beat a nice bit o' retro!

A big splodge of yellow paint, and a dollop of water mixed together and then sloshed on over a white undercoat works perfectly for me. Two coats gives a solid enough colour. Probably takes less than two minutes per model (excluding drying time). Easy peasy!

Thanks again.

My Imperial Fists have same sort of yellow, mine aren't as muddied up though but that's just me.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts
