LOL, I haven't seen that vid in years. As far as your Q goes, it totally depends on your group. Some time thats just the way a session goes and other times it runs a bit smoother than that, or a little more seriously. But don't forget that sometimes a little bit of humor is good too.
Yup... Sounds way too familiar to me.
Guys in my group love to do random stuff like this, also whats annoying is out of game chatter when you trying to get things done. Meh, It's not all bad though, sometimes it helps lighten the session up and let everyone relax a bit more. How can something so bad usually be a barrel of laughs?

I love this video, I remember watching it at the end of the Summoner credits. I think everyone has had an expieriance like this at least once. The nice thing to remember as DM is it is your world. I'd have let him have the watch dog cast, but let the ogres have an item making them undetecable by magic. This still makes me lol everytime I watch it though.
Well, depending on the people you play with... maybe.
Conversely I once played a game GM an aspiring stage actor who is actually not bad at it. It was the most theatrical, epic campaign in the history of mankind. Not only was there no rules lawyering, after a while we... just kind of stopped using rules.
