Hi! Basically, I've been having a Warhammer Quest binge lately, and I've been getting more creative with my dungeons. But that has also led to confusions, and confused and frustrated players are not having fun. So I tell them when they get stumped to 'pray to Sigmar'. It's kind of lame, but I can't really think any way around this without telling them "Oi! You lot! THE LEVER IS OVER THERE!"

So how do you give hints without coming out of character? Some humorous ones?

Oh, and the title of this thread is what I will say when they roll a 1 when praying to Sigmar

I have them make an intelligence test. Never played Warhammer quest so I don't know if there's something similar, but it would be odd not to. Or in the case of them not seeing a lever, a perception test of some sort.

Never thought of that, good idea!

Just remember, odds are often good that your characters are a hell of a lot smarter than the players themselves. And if they have a skill that could possibly apply you can use that to give them a hint.

The other night I had a pretty funny thing happen with my group. I was running my weekly DH game and the players had to deal with a man selling xenos weapons. So they go to the site of the meeting, they see the weapons, are given them, and...they let him leave. One player litteraly said, "well we don't want to burn any bridges." I was like So I looked at them and said, "Ok, so you find a man selling xenoes weapons, take them, let him go, and want to use them? Really?" So I gave them the chance to chase the dude down and do what they do best. I just figured you guys would like an example that I just saw.

This is something that happens in D&D too, try to hint at it slightly even if it mean devateing frome your original plan, for example i wanted the players whom i DM for taht for some reason that a supra intelligent being is controlling them and haveing them attack sysmatically as well as loot towns. at first they didn't get what was going and then i told them that as they walk through the dank tunnel they smell blood (shorting it for sake of keeping it simply) and then they come onto a large group of tortured kobolds, with they're skin pull off, crucified, etc.

I probably would have run with what they wanted to do, in my opionion players have more fun when a mistake comes back to bite them. Remember not everything has to go according to script.

I was the Keeper of a game of Cathulu once where the players were trapped on an island, their boat had sunk and they were being chased. Instead of trying to kill the monster with the 20 something cans of gasoline in the generator house they instead decided they were going to make a boat out of the roof of the generator house and sail it to safety. Low and Behold they made all of the checks I required and sailed away to safety in the roof of a building. It might not always be conveniant and it might bypass alot of hard work on your part but more often then not your players come up with some amuseing ideas.

Oh there was plenty that they actually missed in that mission, I just figured they would appreciate a push in the right direction. I told them after that they weren't getting any more freebies like that.
