Hello all, just finished up my Imperial Guard army and decided to start up Alpha Legion as my next project. With how popular they seem to be nowadays, I figured I'd post my progress so that people can get their fix, and maybe give me some comments/criticism/motivation in return.

I am planning on including, other than a shed load of standard Legionnaires, a Terminator squad (with Lord), a Land Raider, some Chosen, some Havocs with autocannons (using the bits from the Defiler autocannons), and a fair few Rhinos. The theme behind this force is going to be a lack of blatant Chaos worship. This means no Daemons, no Marks, no Icons. I may be including a Daemon Weapon and a Prince, as they are known to have both based on some of the more solid fluff. Yeah yeah, I know, spiky marines, but that's the plan. I don't plan on adding any cultists in any way for now (hopefully if that Legions book comes out I will find a way to get some in), however I will be modeling some non-Astartes operatives where I can. This will including hanging off the vehicles manning the weapons (for example, combi-melta upgrade on a Rhino would be modeled by a human operative wielding it), and if I include a Sorcerer then he will have a familiar which will simply be a robed human psyker.

Anyway, big plans, but it starts off so small. I already have basically the entire army purchased, 3 battleforces, a box of terminators, terminator Lord, Land Raider, and an extra Rhino. Most of it is still in the box though, this is what I have completed so far (close-ups in my gallery):

C&C appreciated, thanks for reading!

Very neatly painted, the green symbols/lettering really stand out.

These look incredibly good just a bit dusty but I think that's the camera. You should consider a daemon prince maybe with the alpha legion tattoos on its skin.

Thank you for the comments. It is the camera, I'm not sure why they came out that way, didn't look like that before I uploaded them. Probably something weird with the lighting. I think I will do a Daemon Prince, although I'm not sure what to use. Probably going to start with an Inquisitor scale space marine and go from there.

Looks nice, can we get closeups on those maybe?

and by the way.. I am Alpharius.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Update:

Progress on the next 15 Legionnaires:

5 that I had started already

LEGS!

Gluing dirt to bases

Bases and legs done. Filing off the mould lines is probably the most time consuming part

--------------------------------------------------------------

And as requested, here are a bunch of close up shots of the already finished Legionnaires:

The next 15 will be built tonight and then it will be off to painting. I'm going to get my 20 regular Legionnaires done first. Then all of the meltagunners, then the champions. Following that will be the Chosen, Havocs, Terminators, Lord, and then the vehicles whenever I need a break (vehicles are so much more relaxing to paint.)

Thanks for looking!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well, I thoroughly convinced myself not to batch paint 15 models, by building all 15 at once. I'll probably paint these in groups of 5, and this should be all of the regular Legionnaires for my army, at least for now. I tried to go for a variety of poses as well as gear. Out of the 20 standard bolter/bolt pistol/ccw marines, 10 wield their bolters, 5 have a bolter and ccw, and 5 have bolt pistol and ccw. I also used a few bits from the Berzerkers that came with my battleforce, some chainaxes/bolt pistols, and a couple skull shoulderpads. Nothing with Khorne's symbol of course. Keeping with the theme of minimal Chaos livery, I've also tried to include as many non-horned helms as possible. I scored a few extra by chopping off some top-knots. Who wants to look like Abaddon anyway? Painting on these will start tomorrow, once they're done I'll have some interesting stuff to show (conversions!)

Lots of work to do

Going a bit slower than I had hoped, but the hard part is over. Now I just have to pick out some details, clean it up, wash and highlight.

Should be finished tonight, and I'll probably take on a tank next.

Slow but steady... finally got those 5 Legionnaires done, and now I've got my first squad of 10. Taking them to a Kill Team tournament tomorrow, running them as a squad of Chosen, should be very fun and Alpha Legion-y.

Whole squad:

Overall I'm fairly satisfied with the results, just going for tabletop standard with these, the chosen and terminators will have more effort and detail put in.

Please let me know what you folks think, and thanks for looking!

Haha thanks. They're not perfect, but I like the freehand better than transfers. I was going to get the GW shoulderpads, but for some reason they can't make up their mind on what the Legion's symbol is. While the serpent's head looks pretty cool, the hydra is where it's at! Pretty easy to do, and if you look at the transfers even there's some variation between the symbols, it isn't a hard and fast symbol like most legions/chapters have, so they don't all have to be identical which can be a problem when doing freehand. Plus I like the way it gives each one a bit of individuality.

Also, the reason I went with the 'A' on the right shoulder without the chains that normally crossed over it in the Heresy era, was that for my warband they were removed to represent symbolically casting off the chains of the Imperium (which they may or may not still be secretly loyal to.)
