Hello all!

I intend to start a blog for the Grey Knight army I plan on building and painting. I have always liked the grey knight look. I personally like the shiny metal, the mid-evil style helms, and heraldry. To be forthcoming, I, like many others, agree that Grey Knights are just the latest installment of an ever escalating game of codex creep. I read about some of the things they could do and started planning the demise of all competition.

I can honestly say there is nothing special about the models I assemble or the skill in which they are painted, but at least they will be fielded by a slightly below average general! In all seriousness, this blog will be more for me than any folks reading it. Like many other wargamers, I have many obligations that I choose over this hobby. Family, girlfriend, friends, work, and other hobbies all compete for my attention. I hope that blogging will encourage me to keep at it, stay up a little later, and try a little harder to get the project done and done to the best of my ability. Some people thrive on pressure and I hope that adding a little to my project will encourage me to raise my game.

Where to begin... the list!

To this point, I have bought the dreadnoughts (going to use furioso dreads), terminators, base grey knights, razorbacks, and the stormraven. I ordered some grey knight rhino doors and I ordered some different resin bases to try something different (not in yet). The librarian is also on order. The inquisitor and henchmen are a slightly different issue. I have already spent a lot of money on what I have and I want to try to economize a little. I have a bunch of other kits laying around and I thought I might try to use spare parts. I know, you are looking at what I already ordered and are saying to yourself, don't cheep out now. I can't help it, $10 to $15 for a single chumpy model offends me. I am going to try to kit-bash some cadians, grey knight falcions, and terminators storm shields to get the crusaders. I am going to try to kit-bash some DE witches, cadians, and grey knight falchions to get the assassins, and I am going to try to find a way to spruce up some cadians for the warriors. I'll probably fool around with a basic space marine or grey knight for the inquisitor. My concern is they won't look grey knight enough to pass as anything other than cadians or witches. We shall see...

I guess I'll start my first production post some time later this week with some de-sprue and flashing action. So exciting...

Thanks for reading!

Dear Games Workshop,

Paper is totally over powered! I can't believe how badly you guys screwed up. Why can't you make armies balanced, like Scissors? I quit!

Well, not really picture worthy, but I managed to desprue and flash a box of grey knight terminators and a box of grey knights last night. So many tiny bits to add for flavor and uniqueness. I am really looking forward to putting some models together.

2 Aegis defense lines and the forge world rhino doors came in last night. All that is left is the fine cast terminator librarian and the bases. Since my local store isnt able to get the fine cast librarian in, maybe I'll go to a bit store to get another grey knight terminator... The extra grey knight terminator would probably fit in the army better anyway, armor style and all. Something to think about...

This blog is really keeping me motivated! I put in another 2 hours today.

I desprued and flashed two more grey knight boxes, a furioso dreadnought, and an aegis defence line. I figured it might be picture worthy to show my little baggies of plastic crack.

I am really ticked by a mistake I made in choosing furioso dreads. There is a BA blood drop and wings on the right front plate of the libby version. I am considering cannibalizing my AOBR dread. See the pic below...

What do you think?

A) Flash the BA symbols off
B) Cannibalize the AOBR dread
C) Other

Add another 2.5 hours to the project time. That puts the total project time at 6 hours.

I now have the following desprued and flashed...

2 furioso dreadnoughts
5 gk terminators
15 gk marines
3 razorbacks
1 stormraven

It is my goal to desprue the cadians and witches this weekend. I should be able to start putting models together soon!

Looks like you've got a lot of stuff to get on with! Looking forward to seeing some assembled minis. I would say it's much much easier to simply trim the blood drop off than replacing the whole side panel. A sharp knife, a bit of filing and it should come off easily. If you're still not happy with it, stick some GK symbol over the top!

My girlfriend has been in a generous mood...

I put three hours in on Friday night and four hours in today and have the following progress to report:

1) All kits have been desprued and flashed
2) Three razorbacks have been assembled (Still working on las cannon and twin linked plasma gun)
3) Test Crusader assembled
4) Test Death Cult Assassin assembled

So, 13 hours into the project and I am pleased with with my progress. I am most pleased with the time I have had to throw at the project to this point. I think the blog is really helping.

Test Crusader
I'm pleased with the sword and the storm shield. I'm pleased with the inquisition brass etch on the shoulder. My biggest concern is the model looks too imperial guard. I guess I don't know how to avoid that since it is a Cadian model... I'd appreciate any comments or feedback you all might have.

Test Death Cult Assassin
I am not pleased with this test model. The proportions are off. The legs, torso, and head are obviously Dark Eldar. The arms are Cadian. The hands and swords are Grey Knight. I really like the aggressive pose and "synth skin" of the Dark Eldar, but the body is too small to support those giant marine hands... This is slightly exasperated by the weapon choice. Instead of two falchions, I picked one falchion and one force sword. I may try to use the Cadian hand with swords. I am also going to go with two falchions. I'm posting a picture to solicit other options and feedback.

As always, thanks for reading!

I made a small mistake last night...

I had 30 min to burn, so I tried to put a troop squad together. I intend to field my GK troops squads with three halberds, one psycannon, and one daemonhammer. I started separating everything into neat little individual piles. I then proceeded to start gluing. When I got to the troops that are modeled to have two hands on the halberd, I noticed it was really difficult to get the arms and weapon correctly positioned. I fooled around with that for five to ten minuets before going to the assembly manual (RTFM!). Sure enough! Those guys have specific arm angles to allow them to seamlessly hold the halberds. The parts are even numbered! Too bad I despured and flashed a week ago. Anyway, I fooled around with that for a little while and eventually found the correct configuration for two hands and a halberd. The moral of the story is Read The F****** Manual!

I hope to be able to post pictures of the completed troops squads tonight.

Well, after some additional research, I decided to change my list a little. Details can be found below. Nearly complete with assembly.

Completes models:
Terminator librarian - Storm bolter added, force sword added (not pictured)
Ordo Xenos Inquisitor - Psyker upgrade, psychotrope grenades (not pictured)

I changed to the Xenos inquisitor to make use of the psychotrope grenades. They are just too cool. Also, I wanted the psyker for hammerhand.

Venerable dreadnought - Magnetized
Venerable dreadnought - Magnetized

Henchman warband - Crusader, Crusader, Crusader, Death Cult Assassin, Death Cult Assassin, Death Cult Assassin, Death Cult Assassin, Death Cult Assassin, Mystic, Warrior (not pictured), bolter, melta bomb (not pictured)

I reconsidered the number of crusaders in the warband. Also, A mystic is a cheaper teleport homer for the terminators in missions in which I want to deep strike. Finally, the warriors with meltaguns were not efficient with the assault henchmen warband. I needed at least one model that can deal with dreadnoughts and tanks.

Razorback (not pictured)

Stormraven (not pictured)

Yet to complete:
Two razorbacks. I need four plasma guns for the turrets.

I could really use some feedback. I am concerned the inquisitor and henchmen look too much like standard guard. I could use some suggestions on how I can improve. Thanks!

I like the ideas the hands are a little big. But you are using what you have and they work for count as.
I would like to see the armour on the legs and as well the autocannons are to far out imo.

Somewhere Between Baal and Armageddon

Definitely bring the autocannons in a lil bit. The crusaders DO look a lil Guardish, but keep in mind what your doing. These guys travel the universe purging evil where it exists by sword and shield. Dive into the fluff. What battles have they seen? What warzone are they stepping onto or off of? Give em a lil backstory. Youll feel better. That and SM shoulderpads

Thank you for the feedback bmosleysbux and ghostmaker. I agree with your assessments...

The autocannons are a little far out. I was prepared to accept it, but I know I can spend a little more effort and have something that looks better. Thanks for helping me commit to a better finished product.

The hands on the "count as" models are a little big. I used marine weapons and hands on guard models. I knew they looked shabby when I glued it, but I couldn't get guard hands to look right either. Maybe I can shave the hands down near the wrists a little... Maybe I could use marine arms... I don't have any other ideas to deal with this. Does anyone else?

I really like the idea of adding marine shoulder pads to the crusaders. I know I need something to make the henchmen stand out a little more. Marine shoulders seems like a good start.

Thanks for your feedback and for reading!

Nearly a month since my last post... ouch!

The good news is I haven't been totally inactive. The bad news is I don't have a ton of progress to share.

1) I am totally unimpressed with my henchmen. I have to go back to the drawing board with them.
2) I have primed three squads of grey knights, one squad of termies, the libby, and three razorbacks.
3) I have started painting one of the squads. Here are some pics of my first model. 90% done.

Feedback always welcomed!
