This is a bold move I may take, but I've already made a decision on what Infinity army LOOKS the coolest in my eyes, but can anyone tell me each army's general playing style? I've generally gone for more of a ranged army than up in your face getting personal. Thoughts?

Thank you all in advance.

First of all, welcome to the addiction. I can say 100% that getting into an infinity army based upon purely looks has no drawbacks at all. In essence all the armies can do everything well (sectorials is another story), and the difference on how well they can do it is really based on YOUR playstyle rather then anything in the army.

As an example I play Nomads and I personally like a hybrid of remotes and HMG/basic camo or Remote heavy. I have 2 friends that play Nomads that one loves camo sniper and Sin Eater sniper heavy and another that likes TO: Camo and piles of hackers. Completely different playstyles and yet ever single one is completely viable and competitve.

And is the army selection driven by single units, such as you may only take one of that particular unit?

The number of a type of Unit you can take is limited by it's AVA (availability). So example I can take 2 Intruders in a basic Nomad list but I can take 4 Securitate. You can take as many as you have availability of anything available to your faction.

So if for example you though the new Hexa Sniper looked badarse...

You may want to consider PanOceania,

If you play around with the army builder you can get a feel for the different forces and options... http://infinitythegame.com/dt_army/ (requires adobe air)

And here is the gallery of all the miniatures... http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/facciones/

Also, feel free to swing by the official forums and the guys there can answer anything and everything about whatever faction you may think of.

Thank you for that. Believe it or not I'm leaning toward Haqqislam, the Combined Army, or the new Aleph.

I appreciate the feedback and I'll be following your advice. (The game seemingly has the feel of Vor: The Maelstrom of old.)

These are the three armies I collect. All three play completely differently because of the units I've chosen.

For example, my Aleph are based heavily around Myrmidons (Who are in my opinion absolutely fantastic!), my Combined Army however are more based around "The Charontid" (Above 200points) with Morat support. Finally, my Haqqislam are my jack-of-all-trades jobbies.
Infinity is pretty much about "Pick what you think looks awesome", nothing is crap as per say - As every unit can pretty much kill any other unit. Getting shot hurts.
If you want some links to my infinity armies that I use here they are:
Combined Army: http://www.infinitycreator.com/users/1332/army_lists/15322
Aleph: http://www.infinitycreator.com/users/1332/army_lists/15444
Haqqislam http://www.infinitycreator.com/users/1332/army_lists/15698
These are only small 150 points lists, but all of them incorporate models I find awesome.

Pick what looks good. That is how I got into it. I have been running a Haqqislam list based on looks alone and it does fine. I bought the starter, the Spitfire Muyib blister and a Djanbazan sniper and I have been doing great ( for a new player). A bit of a mixed list, but you can really work with anything in infinity. With the exception of some of the sectorial starters, all of the infinity starters are good. Find something that strikes your fancy for looks and background and run with it.

Let me put it to you this way.
I bought the minis before I bought the rulebook ( ok I read the rules on pdf , free from the website).
I've been playing every wargame I could get my hands on since 1993 ( ok a bit over the top but; battletech, warhammer of all varieties , warzone, chronopia, at-43, historicals, flames of war).
This is the most FUN I've had since then save perhaps blood bowl.

Pick something that looks cool and you can build a playstyle around it. Sure some are better than others in some categories, but everyone has a hardcore heavy infantry, everyone ( except ariadna) has a giant robot, everyone has an infiltration troop and everyone has a baseline good medium infantry.

If destruction is to be our lot, we ourselves must be its authors. As a nation of freemen we shall live forever or die by suicide.
