There is a min ban of 1 second, and a max of 1000 years. I think.
A punishment for a mod abusing powers would be the admin de-modding the user. Simple as that.
The Mods help to keep order here on Dakka by enforcing the DakkaDakka Rules. Whether that be by temp locking threads, small bans, or just giving warning like "Hey, be polite!"

I get their socks and have my way with them.
If they deserve further punishment, I give them back.

If it ever comes up, we'll be sure to let you know.
In the vast majority of cases, when someone starts complaining about mods 'abusing their power' it simply means that the poster in question has disagreed with the mod's approach in dealing with something. Which is sort of like someone deciding that because they personally think that driving 5km over the speed limit isn't really a problem, the police officer giving them a ticket is 'abusing their power'...
If you find yourself disagreeing with the moderation-related actions of the moderators, maybe the first step is to consider which of you is actually in a better position to judge what moderation-related action is appropriate for the site: someone who has been specifically selected by the site's admins to serve as a moderator (and who is therefore familiar with the board rules, and with the aims and goals the admins have for the site, and whose actions are open to scrutiny by every other moderator and those afore-mentioned admins) or someone who is not, in fact, a moderator...

If two people didn't already have this sigged, I would slap that in mine so fast it wouldn't be funny.

Start an abused sock meme.
Poor sock :(
Have found the best way to deal with a difference of opinion with a Mod is to PM and discuss the issue (politely of course). Airing dirty socks in public is genrally not a good idea.

They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.
