I want to paint my Night Lords chaos lord in an alternative colour (so that he stands out more). However I'm a little stuck on what colour to pick. Black just seems to close to Dark Blue, I was thinking of a dark red, but I'm worried that might look tooo word bearerish. So any ideas that would give a different look but still be recognizably a Night Lord

Dark grey with some details picked out in black. Any sort of lights, gems, and eye visors could be a really bright color so as to seem like they are glowing.

Colour reversal is always good; if you've painted the troops in the official scheme ? dark blue armour with gold trim and bright red wings ? then the scheme on the online store Chaos Space Marine Lord ? bright red armour with gold trim and a dark blue cloak ? would be perfect.

For something more subtle, you could try dark blue armour with silver trim and a bright red cloak; the silver won't clash with the lightning bolts on the armour because there isn't enough room to paint any.
