Hello everyone. I have just recently started collecting an army for FoW and after some consideration I have decided to field a late war Fallschirmpionierkompanie. I have never played FoW but I have read the rules book. I was just wondering if you all had any thoughts on this starting list and if you have any pointers. This is the stuff I have right now.

Fallschirmpionierkompanie

Company HQ
Command Panzerfaust SMG teams
Machine-gun Section x2 MG42 HMG
x3 Sniper teams

Fallschirmpionier Platoon (x2)
x2 Pioneer Squads / x1 flame-thrower team per squad
(maybe supply trucks as well)

Assault gun Platoon
x2 StuG G

Was thinking about adding a Fallschirmjager AT gun platoon of x4 PaK40's or Heavy Mortar Platoon after I finish painting and basing what I have.

Also I was looking for some advice on painting my infantry. So you suggest I paint them after gluing them to the base or before? I looked at the method on the FoW website and I would rather avoid having to attach them to a piece of cardboard to paint them. Any tricks to this? Any tips for creating good urban bases would be appreciated as well. Thanks for the help all.

There are alot of guides out there for painting. I find the best way to do it is to paint each individual soldier of a base first before gluing them on to it. First platoon I painted was a bear because I glued them all down before painting (40k mentality).

I take sticky tack, put it on the base and stick the soldier to something easily adjustable. For me, its the top of one of my paint bottles. That way I can spin the model around in which way and make sure I get everything.

One thing you will need to do though is decide what type of Fallschirmjagers you are painting. Early War, Early War Africa, Mid/Late war. Their uniform color and camo changes depending on that.

For example:

These are painted as if they were with the 6th Fallschirmjager-divison, based on the paint list and break down in the Hell's Highway Intelligence Briefing.

Hope that helps!

As for your list, I think 3 snipers may be a bit much. You may want to trim that down to either just one or maybe two. Mortars I think would be a better investment in they can smoke, as well as pin the enemy like snipers can.

The sticky tack is a great idea thanks. I'll try that out on an old cork or something since all of my paints are vallejo right now. I was going to base my platoon on the 9th FJD on the eastern front. So I may even make them in winter colors. From what I understand their uniforms were reversible with snow on one side and splinter pattern camo on the other.

As for the mortars, i think your right. The pioniers themselves along with the StuG G's should be enough to handle most armor I would encounter. Like you said the mortars are good as they serve a dual purpose. Danka. I will think about cutting the snipers down to two. I really just added three because that is how many I was allowed and that is how many I got in a package when I bought them.

I am eager to try and play with them to find out what I should do, but having to paint them all before I can actually play is putting a damper on that. I appreciate the advice. I was wondering about Flak38's too. Are they only useful against aircraft or are they equally as good against infantry and light vehicles? Is it worth it to give supply trucks to all of my platoons? Sorry to ask so many questions but I am wondering what I should or shouldn't be spending my money on.

Also if anyone knows a good place to find info on how to make good urban bases let me know. I can't seem to locate any good material for this. The FoW website just talks about the pre-made ones they sell .

My friend an I used the sticky tack to put the models to the base so we could play as we painted.

Obviously, this depends on feelings of playing with unpainted models. However it would give you a feel for your army.

(painting takes me awhile and I couldnt really sit and not play the game until I had a completely painted force.)

As a smaller force I would recommend against the snipers. Those points can easily be spent to add another platoon to your force to make it more responsive and adaptable on the table. Those snipers are expensive and cannot hold objectives for you defensively or offensively. I find snipers to best be an addition to a larger force where the expenditure doesn't impact your overall force size as much.

AS for painting it really depends on personal preference. I base all of my figs completely and then basecoat them for use on the table while working on the detail. I paint each squad already attached to the stand and that doesn't bother me at all. Some people do prefer to line the figs up on a temporary base of some kind with fun-tack or whatever to make it easier to paint some details. Depends on what you want to do with it. I just find that I prefer basing my models before they are painted so that I don't end up messing up the paint job when basing and so that I can use the models to play with while they wait for paint.

Welcome to FoW. It is a great game.

I've added a third Fallschirmpionier Platoon. I think I'll keep at least one of my snipers in the list though. I bought them, so I may as well use them, eh? Thanks for the suggestions guys I'm glad to have the input. I am still hung up about how I should go about basing my teams. I would like to do an urban theme, but with five mini's on the base it seems cluttered enough as it is. I normally wouldn't have a problem painting them after attaching them to the base if it weren't for the lack of space between models. So I am going to try and paint them one at a time by team. I'll try to post some pics when I am finished.
