Hello,

I have played Warhammer 40,000 for a while now, and have played many a race... but I always felt as if I needed a race that backed up my ethnicity. The space Marines were a great choice to start off with, but none of the background remotely came close to something Caribbean (If I hear one more person say Pedro Kantor is hispanic I am punching a baby). So I decided to make my own chapter (based off the salamanders... for reasons I will later state): Kuban

Also a note... I am not the best painter in the world... I just kinda did this blog because I wanted to show that Cuban Pride... if I could...
So comments would be nice

History:
A Space Marine Chapter using the home world of Kuba, they are descendants of the Salamanders Geneseed. Having a very tribalistic population, The salamanders b elived that a chapter formed here would create very powerful marines. One distinct feature of the planet is the cultivation of a drug known as tobacco. More potent and dangerous then the Guard issue Iho-stick, this drug was later banned to the imperium due to its ability to have anyone who smoked the substance hooked. The space marines take much pride in the fact that they can in fact smoke the drug, and take great efforts to roll them in the harsh conditions given in the factories of the planet. These skills in the forges have also somehow translated into the usage of flame weapons, since the process of creating these Kuban Tobacco's is quite harsh in the heat of the forge.

The first leader of the Kuban Chapter was Martius, who believed essentially that everyone in the Imperium was as importatnt as the next. The Ministorium ignored his slightly heretical views, since they did not want to get involved fighting a space marine chapter. Sadly, as time went on however, each leader continually began to view the imperium in a very distasteful tone, seeing that the idea that every human was created equal was far from being enacted. As of now, the imperium has enacted certain sanctions on the space owned by Kuban Space Marines, and the current Chapter Master Fidelius Castrous is biding his time to see what the future hold for his marines, and for the imperium as a whole. (the history will expand when I get more ideas from me, or you guys )

Picture time!!!!

Update!

Here is Chapter Master Fidelius Castrous (a stand in for Vulken)... the east coast hurricane Irene has left me with a lot of time to paint

(feel the flames of Kuba!!!)

Now I might not keep this model, cause I kind of want to get this model (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/LUGFT-HURON-CHAPTER-MASTER-OF-THE-ASTRAL-CLAWS.html) and add the wings too him and add some green stuff beard and a cigar! Maybe even a cuban revolutionary hat would be great! Tell me what you think

By the way, the wings on all the upcoming heroes are there because Saints are a major part of Cuba, and so I wanted to incorporate some sort "saintly" images with all my heroes of the chapter.

Oh wow! I forgot I had this blog. Here is a massive update for all those who followed this blog - so sorry for forgetting about it! But it is back hahahahah!

So as an update, I put Warhammer 40,000 aside to instead focus on collecting and playing a battlefleet gothic fleet that involved my chapter. Well lo and behold, I created an entire fleet for my chapter. Now in total, it should be a Ramilies Class Starfort, 3 Battlebarges, 6 Strike cruisers, and 6 Gladius ships - this is Battlefleet Caridad!:

Battlebarge Havana - Flagship of the Kuba Chapter of Space Marines (This is my favorite ship and unfinished in painting. Based it off the Lord Inquisitor movie coming out)

Battlebarge

Strikecruiser

Strike Cruiser

Gladius

Battlefleet Caridad

So that was all my figures - but I have finished most of them since then - and I have taken much better pictures!

Also Here is the lore for the Kuban Space Marines!

First I will start with the Altered fluff story (please read, as it does give you a good laugh - and the reason behind this army):

History:
A Space Marine Chapter using the home world of Kuba, they are descendants of the Salamanders Geneseed. Having a very tribalistic population, The salamanders believed that a chapter formed here would create very powerful marines. Much like the Salamanders, the Kubans are stoic and prideful, having much faith in not only the Emperor but in their home planet as well. They also have faith in a Saint from their home planet, recently given to sainthood due to acts of pure charity - in the language of the Kubans (also known as spaneesh), she is known as La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre [or for those in low-gothic Our Lady of Charity of Cobre]

These skills in the forges have begun to transplant themselves in the ability for the chapter to produce and use flame weapons, since the process of creating these Kuban Tobacco's is quite harsh in the heat of the forge.

Inception of the Chapter:
The first leader of the Kuban Chapter was Martius, who believed essentially that everyone in the Imperium was as importatnt as the next. This obviously led to many a fight between the chapter and The Ministorium - but no scuffles were to voilent (until the Sedition Wars - see below). They tended to ignore his slightly heretical views, since they did not want to get involved fighting a space marine chapter and possibly their gene father's as well. However, as time went on, each Chapter Master continually began to view the imperium in a very distasteful tone, seeing that the idea that every human was created equal was far from being enacted in its leaders. Essentially, the Chapter began seeing that the Imperium monopolized the image of the Emperor, giving it a very distasteful capitalistic view. The believed that the Emperor was God, but that he was accessible to anyone, and that no person was more important than the next - and that all must contribute, and get payed equally, from working towards the greater good of the Imperium. They began having slight contacts with the Tau Empire to adopt some of their methodologies in creating this idea, however, it was by this time that the Inquisition and the Imperium had enough of this "communal" (or as they dubbed it communist) propaganda and they decided to act behind the banner of Heresy - that the chapter was in league with the Tau Empire.

The Sedition War
Known also as the "Freezing War," it was basically never a formal engagement, but rather a slow amassing of weapons. The Kubans, forewarned by their Librarians of what was going to happen, began amassing a greater fleet. Their Fortress Monastery was pulled back to the home planet, and they remodeled one of their BattleBarges - The Havana - to mimic the Famous Seditio Opprimere. In turn, the Imperium began ammasing more and more of a Fleet. It got to the point where if engaged, both fleets would enact horrible losses - and due to the impending Tyranid and Necron Threat, no other Space Marine Chapter wanted to have the heavy duty of destroying such a noble chapter that has proven themselves in war. Therefore, the Imperium, in an effort to hold their head high, blockaded the section of space used by the Kubans, in a hope that eventually, they will run out of resources and come back into the arms of the imperium.

The Revolution:
Around the time of the Sedition War, a revolution happened in the Chapter as well. Chapter Master Batistaus wanted to return to the fold of the imperium, and by doing so he began exiling many of the Space Marines as well as killing many of his brothers. Fidelius, ashamed of his Chapter Master, began to fight back in many hit and run tactics, using quick lightening strikes and flamers to burn/destroy many supply lines. Eventually, Batistaus was forced to meet Fidelius in the battlefield, and in an Epic Dual said to have taken 2 days and nights, Fidelius finally executed Batistaus and took hold of the Chapter. It was his rule that began the blockading of space by the Imperium

The Future:
As of now, no one knows what will happen. The current Chapter Master Fidelius Castrous is very old, and many are unsure if his successor - Raulous Castrous - will enact the same principles as all the other Chapter Masters. For now, the imperium has enacted certain sanctions on the space owned by Kuban Space Marines; meanwhile, the Kubans are biding their time to see what the future hold for the Chapter, and for the imperium as a whole.

Tactics and War Cry:

War Cry: Para la Revolucion!
This is based on the Revolution War - where the Kubans feared that Batistaus would eventually ruin the Chapter. It evokes a sense of revolution and pride in Kuban culture, while also making note of the fact that Kuban dogma is in stark contrast to Imperium dogma when they view the Imperium rule.

Tactics: The Kubans prefer Flame and heat based weapons, as it reminds them of more peaceful days of forging Kuban cigars in the furnaces of their home-planet. However, in contrast to their parent chapter the Salamanders, they prefer quick aerial assaults, raids, drops from space, and a type of warfare that the White Scars have dubbed "Guerilla warfare." While other Chapters view this as weak, and distasteful, none could question the effectiveness of lightening fast raids with heat based weapons during the Revolutionary war and other combats that saw them victorious. Therefore, they prefer tanks, assault squads, bikes, landspeeders, as well as other things that quickly get them in, and out of the battlefield, to plan their next assault. The one exception to this rule has been jokingly referred to as "Kuban pride" - where either the main vehicle, or Space fairing vessel, is decked out with as many adornments as possible as well as sometimes the slowest vehicle. They also enjoy teleportation techniques with their terminators - and have on one occasion beamed 30 terminators at once in the heart of an enemy army - needless to say the army was decimated. Therefore, many of their Landraiders, or the three battlebarges they own, are big, adorned with many symbols and honors, and sometimes, quite slow (as seen with the Battlebarge Havana). Of course, these are always supported by their quicker cousins on the battlefield, as so they never get overwhelmed. It is said that at times, Kubans will pridefully lure the army to attacking the main vehicle while the rest of the Kuban force outflanks the enemy - this is a sign of the deepest respect and honor to be that vehicle, and if you survive, all the more pride and honor is given to you.

And of course a very special character added by a dakkite member
Chaplain Chi Guervo. A radical Chaplain tainted by Chaos who lived through several Chapter Master's reign, further poisoning each CM against the Emperor with his whispers of heresy and promises of Social Justice throughout all of the Empire.
While attempting to bring the planet Bolvia under Kuban, control Chaplain Guervo was ambushed by an entire company of Bolvian Guardsmen (with rumoured support from a mysterious Chapter of Space Marines also colored in Red White and Blue Armor calling themselves "Mercans"). Chaplain Guervo was handed over to the inquisition where he was declared Herecticus Diobolique and executed for treason against the Emperor.

I also have somewhat abandoned the idea of a full Warhammer 40,000 army - or at least one that is full of regular space marines. Being that Cubans (the actual ones that I enjoy) are a bit prideful, I would expect their sci-fi counterpart to have many terminators and large units on the field of battle. Because of this, I am keeping the lore the same - but instead adopting more of a Dark Angels army load-out and instead Having a Kuban character Castro (who will represent Belial) followed by his elite guerilla fighting warriors in terminator armor. Less models to paint, a lot more fun to modify, and they are big and beefy and exagerative - any fellow cuban should be proud

Here is that massive update I promised

This first Section is devoted to the three main Capitol ships of the Kuban Fleet: The Havana, The Guantanamo, And El Pinar del Rio

First up are pictures of the Capitol Battlebarge Havana

This Capitol Ship has been heavily modified ever since the Tyranid invasion. Taking lessons from the Ultramarines, the ship has been outfitted with bombardment cannons on both sides of this ship, however, the turrets themselves are shelved within the ship for further protection. It still maintains an undercarriage of launch bays to repel close range attacks, but most of its firepower comes from the bombardment cannons littered throughout the ship.

The next ship up is the Guantanamo. This is one of the newer ships added to the Kuban fleet, and because of that, the captain has been ever so attempting to bring it into the most dense fighting regions to prove their worth and their Kuban pride. Because this ship is so new, the weapons on it reflect the most common of all battlebarge types.

The final Capitol ship is the Battlebarge Pinar del Rio. This battlebarge, Much like the Havana, has been heavily modified to reflect the harsh fighting conditions of the region. This battlebarge, unlike others, has a reduced firing capacity on its Port and starboard bow, however, it has highly increased firepower in the fore of the ship. This includes two very large bombardment cannons that have heavier firepower than the turret centered ones, and a large nova cannon, outfitted to fire in a more conical shape when exploding - both of these weapons allow the ship to stay back and bombard from fairly lengthy distances. However, while this ship has powerful weapons, its true power lies in its complicated sensor arrays and its communications equipments. It rivals, if not excels, technology provided by Mars, and it is said that it is able to detect an oncoming fleet before they even plan to attack, or can hear a whisper from several planet systems downward. (needless to say the paint job is unfinished on this model... )

Here are the Workhorses of the fleet - The strike cruisers!

The first squad up Contains three strike cruisers (one of which is being painted up to join the fleet in its ever intensifying wars on the borders of the sector). This squad consists of the 3 Strike cruisers fitted out with Prow Bombardment Cannons: The Celia Cruz, The Guevara, and The Gomez.

The Second squad of strike cruisers are not fitted with forward firing bombardment cannons, instead favoring the cruiser type of the Grey Knights for a quicker entry, drop, and exit from any system for lightning quick strikes. These strike cruisers are named the Fidel, the Marti, and the Batista.

Yup good eye - it was at a swap meet of bits and the guy was selling em for 50cents a piece - I bought like 10. Each one of my chapter leaders has wings. But the guy you see there is no longer the chapter master, instead I am using him as a librarian (a bad ass one at that) or a captain. Wait till you see my new and improved (somewhat deathwingish) version of fidel (who acts as Belial)... lets just say he looks like he wants to hammer someone bad!

Gladius Frigates are next just processing my images guys!

The fluff for that librarian - are those wings supposed to be artificial and he stuck them on, or did he mutate like Sanguinius and he can actually fly? Can't wait to see what else you're doing!

Still developing it - but they fluff behind the wings is based off the home planet Kuba. You see, the Kubans, before the revolution, actually have had a canonized saint named Lady Caridad (bonus points if you get the joke). Lady Caridad is usually pictured as a saint with wings who flies from the God Emperor to the populace of Kuba, bringing those who have felt the oppression of the ministorium ease and comfort. Therefore, all leaders of the chapter (chapter masters, company masters, librarians, chaplains) get wings - which are artificial wings that, if modified with the armor, allow them to fly just as well as a marine equipped with a jump pack. However this is not the only use, as the wings are said to give off the holy glow of the Saint and God Emperor himself, bringing enemies an unknown sense of fear. If the person is wearing terminator armor, for example chapter master Fidel (Belial Replica), the wings are there for status, as they are not powerful enough to lift him off the ground - however, Librarian Raul is able to fly with his Tactical Assault squad due to the modifications done to the wings, armor, and jet pack.

The only two that do not get wings are Apothecaries and Techmarines - Apothecaries instead take their role as a healer/preserver of the Gene seed as mention enough to the Saint, and techmarines prefer their mechanical arms in lieu of wings due to there practicality - something Kubans put aside for Kuban pride.

Sorry this fluff is still being fleshed out - but its funny as hell as is anyway

Alright - this set of pictures will roundabout end my Battlefleet Gothic portion of Space Marine Chapter (next up is the actual ground troops that make up the Kuban chapter of Space Marines)

Lastly we have the nimble, but still dangerous, Gladius type ships. These guys have been known to be called "Piranitas," or little Pirahna's. They fly around in their tightly knit squad of 6, and while the strike cruisers and main capitol ships of the Kuban fleet reap a terrible toll on the enemy fleet, the Piranitas fly around and harrass, shoot down, and overall annoy the enemy until their bigger cousins can take the ships out. While this job is not that high in prestige for Kuban Commanders - they relish in the fact that their job is ultimately for the greater good of the chapter, and that when working communally - things work out just as planned!

The Piranitas

And to end this, I present to you all the Kuban Fleet - BATTLEFLEET CARIDAD (just imagine the last two ships painted... I was just so excited to show em off so I decided to show em as is )

And this is my favorite picture of the fleet - enjoy (btw if you have not noticed, these pictures are shot quite large on a pretty good camera, so be sure to zoom in on all of em )!

Next update, as I said before, I will begin the ground units of the Kuban Fleet (Warhammer 40,000) - prepare for some awesome Cuban pride

Make sure to leave comments if you like - Cubans need lots of ego padding at times hahahahha
