OK, I bought the dindrenzi starter fleet, and after having a few test games I want to expand the army. Is there any really powerful stuff I should look for? What ships generally do really well in firestorm?

I've personally heard fighters are pretty good. Maybe a carrier?

From the Spartan Games forums:

"Building on the fleet box: I'd consider adding a Victory or gunship squadron, perhaps a second battleship if you expect to play 1000pt or more games, six each of frigates and escorts and a carrier. The heavier medium ships give you a good mix of firepower and flexibility, the smaller vessels are cheap to field but are very effective (escorts are particularly useful for your larger ships since they can make up for your comparatively poorer manoeuvrability and weaker flank weapons). Carrier's a matter of taste. Fighter craft are often useful, if only to counter the enemy's, but the Claymore is hard to use well with it's limited turning ability and fixed guns (less of an issue if you use the tactics points optional rule)."

Also, the Dreadnoughts will be out in another month or so, you'll want to keep an eye out for those.
