Reinstalling Oblivion to a 100% completion run while I wait for Skyrim to come out. I haven't played in a while so I'm not up to date with all of the mods. Any recommendations?

I recently did the same thing. Looking around it seems the most recommended are Qarl's texture mod, Kvatch rebuilt, Mart's Monster Mod and Natural Environments. Mostly they add to the graphics and add in a few extra monsters.
Another well recommended one would be the unofficial patch of course, fixes many bugs they didn't get around to dealing with.

You dont like deadly reflex because you can't get it to work or you actually think it's crap. I really hope it's not the latter, as it revolutionized melee.
As for HG, there is another body mod that let you choose between the different types, I remember muscle women because that's what I picked.
BOSS just helps prevent compatability issues
Idk how much more you want to mod the game. There was that one mod that added a whole new continent to the game, and after that if you still aren't satisfied I'm sure theres a mod out there that lets you play as Cloud from FF7 (lol).

I used to use DR, it is crap. I was mainly interested in if any good new mods have come out, and it likes there really haven't been any.

Random question here, but If I can run Oblivion fine with all settings turned all the way up, will I be able to run skyrim on highish settings? (my computer runs space marine demo fine too; that is the most recent thing I have for it)
Also, how awesome is Quarl's texture pack? What all does it replace?

Best bet is to check the Skyrim forums. They have entire thread devoted to helping people check and see if they can run it. I can run Oblivion max settings with Open Better Cities on at about 20 FPS and I know I won't be able to run Skyrim well.

The above mod list is good start. I find that you want to have as few mods running as possible, less glitches that way. I fnd that even the highly recommended 'essential' mods packs can cause problems when stacked.
Most Oblivion mods I run are those that reduce textures. Oblivion has high poly count backgrounds that are very inefficient. Look for mods that reduce the poly count of grasses and background items while not sacrificing quality. Add enough of those mods and quantity becomes your new quality. Quantity is something games designers used to overlook. Some of these mods are so tight that quality is improved while the poly count is cut to the bone, with very efficient sculpting and skins.
Oblivion is a good game, but poor compared to Morrowind. There are mods that can make Morrowind as pretty as Oblivion or better, and it has superior gameplay.
Oblivion has some coding quirks that even now cannot be dealt with, while Morrowind has been completely overhauled, several times. It has been worked on longer and has more extra campaigns and of higher quality. Oblivion didnt get anything like as much modding interest, mainly because it was a more 'advanced' game, it was also harder to integrally change and the console compatibility doesnt help.

Heh, it wasn't the nude mod that bothered me, it was the spell and the monster mods that made me..

Morrowind can be pretty good looking with the right mods, but it still doesn't come close to Oblivion graphics wise. Also, Morrowind NPCs and creatures look like complete crap compared to modded Oblivion characters. Oblivion has better gameplay by far. Better stealth, better archery, better blocking and melee, especially with mods like Deadly Reflex and Unnecessary Violence.
Morrowind does have better landmass and quest mods though...and a better setting.
Ironically, part of Oblivion being rerated to M or w/e it is, was due to the topless mod that came out. Yeah...what would ESRB do if they saw the tentacle rape mod, sex sim mods, bondage mods, various pose mods....

Download them.
It can get lonely being an ESRB ratings official.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
