Just started a Tau army after a fantastic trade here on Dakka. The army really was chose as an excuse to use Ice Blue paint and snow flock for basing. Love the clean look of Tau units, and if I ever add Kroot, I have no Idea how to tackle the look of them.

To break up the project of painting I reward myself for every 12 Fire Warriors with a Tank and a Mech suit.




first 2 test models. Like the look and ran with it. Like the gray and blue together. Did a wash on the gray of the fire warriors jumpsuit to pick out some details in the fabric.

Went on to a Devilfish transport



Love the hard black lines to break up the model. Looks like a cell shaded video game to me.


Crisis suit with multi-tracker for head...saw it on GW site in WD article and thought I'd try it, also the head that was on it when I got it in trade was damaged.

Weapons are not glued on, they just kinda fit in place and stay.

Hammerhead is up next as I work on next 12 fire warriors. Crisis suit commander soon.

PS: What did you reward yourself with?

The reward is to paint something that's not a Fire Warrior, lol...but I think as a larger one I'm going to buy some Broadsides. Not now though, too many models to paint feels overwhelming.

I love the paint scheme, its bright and bold and will look very good in large numbers.

Personly, im not a fan of the MT head, but if the head was dameged you might not have many chocies. It is a good coulor sceme though.

Love the color. Looks great and really stand out nicely. I'm looking for an excuse to use snow on a base as well, but can't seem to think of one. I won't snatch your idea though. I'm avoiding starting any new armies until I finish what I have already.

I'm not too happy with it either, but if they were all the basic heads and one was damaged, it would have stood out in a negative way anyway. At least I can designate this one as team lead of a squad and he looks different.

Actually ran out of a couple of my paints working on the Hammerhead and another squad of Fire Warriors.

Picking some up this weekend so I can get back to this project.

I feel like it's such a lame update, as it is basically another Devilfish with a huge cannon.




I HATE painting the engines on the sides. I honestly had the main part of the tank done for like 2 weeks, but so very slowly painted the engines that it took this long to complete the update. They just seem to take so long compared to how long it seems like it should take. I still have to finish the double burst cannons for this, but I don't think I will use them much as I like the Smart Missile system more.





Well... that's the 50% mark for Large Tau vehicles. I'm also just finished my 18th Fire warrior out of 48 so I need to knock out 6 more before I do another transport. Work in progress is now the Crisis Suit Commander. Need to do my test Stealth Suit and another crisis suit as well before moving forward.

I made some custom Shield drones from shield generators from crisis suits on gun drones. They actually came out pretty well and once I paint some I'll put up pics.

That's very interesting. What is the body/legs made from?

Parts:

Piranha, Hammerhead Turret, Defiler body and legs. Not a difficult conversion, and some of the parts fit together very well.

That is a very nice mech!
