To sum it up WoW has become less, and less fun each passing day. It's like watching your wife very slowly age...Horribly.

Anywho. I'm curious about Rift. I played a Hunter, and a Shaman. I tend to lean over woodsmen/sniper-esqe characters. Would rift be able to accommodate someone like me?

What is the PvP like? I'm scanning the fluff while I write this, but I seldom post on Dakka, and thought to change that.

I'm thinking a Dwarf character, as my friend plays Guardians. And Dwarves are right up my alley.

Rift is a good MMO. It refined elements from WoW and WAR. The only thing that it didn't take from more modern MMO's is the ability to have an enemy and a friendly target. Attacks that trigger on certain conditions will pop up near your character so you don't have to look at the hotbar to see if it lights up. If you have to build up points on a rogue type it will show them under the mobs name. Queuing for PvP and Dungeons is simple and easy, quests are fairly standard but not w/o their charms on occasion, and the graphics are quite nice. If you are looking for new and innovative you are in the wrong place, but if you want a solid, well built MMO experience it will accommodate. Outside of people complaining about losing, the PvP is fun and not to imbalanced, class wise.

Well, it sounds like it is worth a try.

PvP and Dungeons is simple and easy, quests are fairly standard but not w/o their charms on occasion, and the graphics are quite nice. If you are looking for new and innovative you are in the wrong place, but if you want a solid, well built MMO experience it will accommodate

Rift is much better than WoW in almost every way in my opinion.

Rift is pretty boring - I played it at release and the Lore was about as boring as it gets, and the quests were the same old grind as usual, with no unique twists or anything.

I'm waiting for DMO, WAR is dead, WoW is boring, Rift is too plain and boring, and has a rather stupid concept.

I was pretty sure thinking something is better IS an opinion, if you think turkey is better than ham, that is an opinion, is it not?

I'm surprised, I thought you would have gone for the barbarian characters.

They aren't vastly different and comparisons are quite easy to make. Now if we were comparing Rift to Space Marine or Plants vs Zombies that might be a reasonable argument. As it is we are talking about two MMO's that use similar mechanics and interfaces so it is not a stretch to look at how each one accomplished their goal. The caveat would of course have to be made that WoW is an older title when comparing certain elements.

Also, the games cool. i had to go and bid my farewells to my guild, on WoW but honestly save for a few I had nothing but scorn for the server I was on, I'll be sold with Rift if I can get some decent RP.

Are you calling me ignorant Karon? Because I have played both games and I think Rift is better because you can customize you're character more than WoW. But yes it's lore isn't great and the quests are the same thing over and over again, but to a lesser extant than WoW.

In Rifts defense, it doesn't have an RTS series to fall back on

I liked Rift better than WoW. The more in-depth character creation was great, and the souls is quite good too, although having surfed the Rift forums a few times, I have noticed that at end-game, it mimics WoW in that certain combinations are accepted, but others are shunned as being ineffectual.

One of the reasons I quite WoW was because of the endgame elitism and the fact that I was becoming more and more hard-pressed to find a raid that didn't mind which class/spec you were; whilst I only got the Rift trial, from what I gathered, it sounds like I might just be facing the same old routine come endgame on Rift; having to sit about waiting for people who don't mind, or switch to the current 'in fashion' set-ups and not enjoy myself as much as I did when I had a character that was accepted for being my own, and not accepted because it fit a template or because it's the most efficient.

Does anyone with access to Rift's endgame have any comments about it, seeing as though my experience is limited, and i'm not willing to shell out for a game and subscription I could end up dumping once my hardwork pays off and I reach endgame content, only to be turned away.

I think that's the only reason WoW got popular was because of everyone who player warcraft 1-3, I personally didn't like the warcraft RTS games, I thought they were pretty boring.

Well you essentially get 5 jobs per character that you can switch on the fly, so just having around one for certain raid situations isn't that big a deal.
