Good fun, but many bugs.

The worse so far being the save bug, which means it randomly just doesn't save anything you've done for several hours so you're back to where you started on previous session.

Thank the Emperor that I didn't have that bug, the only bug I had was when loading abandoned building. There was always s1 item missing so I had to get out of the game, press "ok" and then get in.

I didn't have that one.

Overall, I'd say the game suffers from being very rough, like it's an unfinished product. The amount of bugs people encounter, the way you move ingame, various features and the menus all add to that feeling.

However, they've got the atmosphere down perfectly, and once you get down to beating zombies it (which in itself takes awhile to get used to due to fiddly hitboxes and distances) has a wonderful visceral feeling. Especially when you're swinging a lump hammer and break a zombies arms and it just flails around helplessly with them.

I don't see why everyone hates on the voice acting, I think it's ok to hilarious in most parts. The music when it makes a showing is brilliant, best being the very first action piece which for me sets the scene wonderfully for a desperate fight against ghouls.

I've not noticed much plot so far (having not gone far, only just got to Act 2), bar normal survival stuff.

I'd happily give the game a 7.5/10 at the moment, and bump it to 8 once co-op is fixed. Ignore the Edge review. It is biased, partisan crap.

I'm enjoying this one as well.

The combat does take some time to get used to as the movement of the PC seems more realistic than other 1st person games I've played in the past.

The fact that you can drive around saved the game for me, before that I was dreading walking from A to B!

Still hating the "Thug" zombies though, have to run them down when I can.

A game scaling the level of the enemies to that of the player is all well and good, but at times it leaves me feeling as though the effort of levelling up is rendered pointless due to the fact that in some ways it doesn't balance out.

I mean the stats of the zombies seem to climb with every level while some levels all I have to show for it is a -10% to the rate at which my weapon degrades.

It could be worse. You could have had this bug:

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Anyway, I hate runners the most - those freaks always tear me apart in close combat.
Other guys were not that much of a trouble when you have ranged weapons
I loved the graphic, it was quite enjoyable ( aldo I noticed a LOT of bugs with trees, grass, chairs etc... ).
The funny thing is that I never knew that zombies carry that many cash, and ranged weapons are done as they should be - limited and scarce ammo.

I can eat runners for breakfast playing as Sam B at around 12th level what with the skills he has to enhance his damage and stamina drain with blunt weapons, but I have yet to find a really good ranged weapon.

I've experimented with throwing knives at slow-moving zombies like the Thugs (finally got my technique down for killing them last night, so I no longer fear the stupid great lumps of gristle) and actually being able to pluck the blade out of them and use it to throw at them multiple times is very amusing.

The old PS2 game "The Bard's Tale" played up on that one by having the PC comment that he once found a large treasure chest inside a wolf that he killed and how disturbing an experience it was.

The thing you have to wonder is where the zombies in bikinis were hiding the money...

Isn't it basically like Left 4 Dead with some perks and abilities for each character that you use?

Never played Left 4 Dead.

Saw a review where they mentioned Left 4 Dead to point out that Dead Island is far more expansive and based on skill development while the former is more linear and focussed on gunning things down.

Dead Island is very light on guns.

I like where this game is going, it is however a buggy mess. However, I am enjoying it a lot so far, except for the constant dying part and having to pay on the workbench to fix and upgrade my weapons, I'd rather scav for parts than hunt for money. Other than that, I like it a lot and had a fair share of fun exploring the island during the first chapter so far.

The dying tends to become reduced by the time you get to level 15 if you have the right selection of skills.
