I've played Dawn of War I and am currently going through Winter Assault. I was wondering if I'll missing any big parts of the story if I skip Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm and just jump into Dawn of War II?

Davian Thule of Dark Crusade is present in DoW II, and the events of Soulstorm are referenced but no. You're not really missing anything.

As a side note, Space Marine takes place after Retribution.

Spoiler:

I personally found 'that' a pleasant surprise myself. I found it odd throughout most of the game a Captain only runs around with his two chums and no one else

I was so happy when they showed up, but I was disappointed
I didn't get to see davian thule or any other dreadnought in the game for that matter.

I missed this reference in SM. Can you fill me in?

edit: disregard, someone PM'd me the specifics. Funny, I walked right over that reference without catching the significance of it.

Or it might have been a semi-subtle jab, given that, you know, the chapter master pretty blatantly went "LOL CHAOS" on the imperium during the Aurelian Crusade.

Seconded. Kudos to Relic for making me actually loathe a character. If I could have put a bolt round through Leandros` brain case by the end of the game I would have.

I wanted to kill Leandros SO badly "the codex astartes doesn't advise such an action" STFU!!! I want to use the damn jump pack!

"The codex astartes doesn't support blah blah"

What, so you want the captain to take one of a handful (at most!) of his thunderhawks down into the teeth of an ork ship currently blowing the living daylights out of things MUCH bigger than a thunderhawk? Risking the mobility and lives of all the people onboard for the sake of strangely and suddenly very specific dogma?

Heres some Codex Astartes wisdom for you Leandros: DON'T BE A MORON.

If there aren't 10,000,000 "Unless...." or "Except in cases of..." in the Codex I would be absolutely stunned.

Well regards to the Dawn of War question storywise you'd just need play DoW 1 and you can skip straight to DoW 2 without missing much storywise.

Regarding Space Marine. I also found it odd that a space marine captain would only bring 2 out a hundred space marines he should be commanding to fight against a full scale ork invasion.

Btw did they mention from which company Titus is from?

Your honor is your life, let non dispute it!

2nd, so he may or may not be the Captain before Cato Sacarius

He makes frequent contact with "other Ultramarines" within presumably his company throughout the game. They are generally off supporting other aspects of the campaign.

Fact: The Codex Astartes that Girly man wrote is only 1 page, the rest is all errata.

As for the story, you could always read the books.

Aaand the references of their "fury" indicated they killed said chapter master.

I don't see how the word is indicative of that. That word appears like, everywhere in Space Marine fiction. I don't think I've ever read an SM related book or codex that didn't use it Am I missing something?

Because it was said that...
Spoiler:
the fury shown in the campaign impressed the Ultramarines. Basically, they did surprisingly well all things considered.

Oh yeah I get that. I just don't see how that reveals that

Spoiler:
They killed said chapter master. Not saying they didn't, just saying I don't see how the word 'fury' says they did.

All the endings had him die-- Kyras is dead in canon no matter which they go with, unless they go in an entirely different direction (unlikely). But if the the BR are being complimented on their battle prowess, it's fair to say it's likely they did it.

I ended up finishing the IG campaign of Winter Assault and the campaigns for DC and SS as the Blood Ravens. Very fun. I'm glad I went through them. Trying to get through DOWII now... not really liking it as much so far. Looks really pretty but I miss amassing heavybolter spam.

Look up the word "subjective".

I'm not fond of the campaign either.
