So, a friend won the armored train from a local tournament, and didn't want to do anything with it, so traded for it along with a box of Polish infantry.

I picked these up since I didn't have an Early War army and there was a doubles 1000 point league coming up in October that I wanted to join in. I'd be thinking about building a late war Polish list on top of my British Paras since the option was there, and I gotta give the Polish some respect.

I just have to say, this thing is a bit ridiculous, but awesome all the same.

Anyone know where I can find some TT scale track in the US? Apparently, that's the best match for it, and I figure I can also pickup some scenery for our tables there too, I found a site called Euro Train Hobby that looks legitimate and the prices are reasonable, but could use some more suggestions.

I'm currently going with the Pulk Kawalerii Zmotoryzowanej (Motorised Cavalry Regiment)

My list 1750 list:
Pulk Kawalerii Zmotoryzowanej HQ - 40
2 Cmd Rifle team
Motorcycle & Sidecar
Polski-FIAT 508 field car

Kawalerii Zmotoryzowanej Company x2 - 680
1 Cmd Rifle team
3 Polski-FIAT 508 field car
2 Ckm wz. 30 HMG
8 Rifle/MG team
4 Polski-FIAT 621 truck
2 Anti-tank Rifle team

Zmotoryzowanej Anti-tank Gun Platoon - 130
1 Cmd Rifle team
3 37mm wz. 36 gun

Zmotoryzowanej Motorcyclist Platoon - 100
1 Cmd Motorcycle Rifle/MG team
2 Motorcycle Rifle/MG team

Armored Train
1 Locomotive
2 Heavy Artillery Car
1 Assault Car
1 Cmd Rifle team
6 Rifle team (mounted assault platoon)

Attached Armored Railcar Platoon
1 FT-17 with S.A. 37mm
2 TKS

The idea is, the train is the centerpiece, the infantry will get to and dig in at the objectives. If they need anti tank support, the train should have some line of fire, otherwise AT guns will usually be in ambush. The Armored railcar platoon is also there for when I need to get support somewhere quick.

My doubles tournament is basically the minimum combat platoons, and just the armored train with 2 heavy artillery cars and assault car, putting me at 1035 (my teammate can give me some of his points, so he'll be playing with 965 points)

I find the light arty cars are better, with RoF2 over 1, and I end up direct firing more than bombarding. Regardless, the train usually only gets one turn before it dies with me anyway -_-

Survivability depends on what mission and which terrain you play in.

My group has a lot of interesting terrain, including a lot of full line of sight blocking buildings and forests. We don't pack the table full, but we always lay down a good looking layout that's as much a diorama as gaming table. In my last game, I was the attacker and managed to keep the train behind a series of forests and buildings. Not out of sight, but he didn't have anything that he wanted to move into the open against the train.

The heavy artillery cars have a better AT and firepower when firing bombardments, which is useful for dealing with entrenched positions, same for tanks. I suppose bombardments are a problem when the train has no observer. I'll have to see if other cars in the train can spot for the back artillery car.

But, you're right, the ability to get the full 16" of movement along the track then fire with full RoF means a lot to the train, not to mention the insane number of MGs it has across all the cars. I'm thinking of putting the Light Artillery car up front so I can roll up with 4 big gun shots direct firing, and still have the back car do bombardments against entrenched positions. Then, when it comes time to drive the train up and get that one turn blazing away.

At 1000 points teamed up with a friend who is mainly doing Stuarts in early war, taking 2 heavy artillery cars allows me to fill in for artillery, while he focuses on lots of tanks.
