I have seen it played and it appeared easy enough to follow along. I don't see any of the books or models in my FLGS (just opened about 3 months ago) but I believe I will try it out once it becomes more available.

Its a solid game.

Has about the same intensity of play as Warmachine but without the brokenness of everything.

It seems to be building up a fair head of steam.

Plus within the range is my favorite model ever produced, Saint John.

I played a tournament last night at Neoncon Las Vegas, NV and I never played before. I borrowed an army and went 2-2. It's really easy to learn and the models are amazing. They are already planning an expansion for next year. This is my game of choice with Warmachine.

I bought the force lists book first to help me choose the army I wanted to play during the tournament which is more expensive than the core rulebook. But you can also read up on the forces backround on the website dark-ages.com before buying anything. Also, try going to some demos as they usually have any army you can try out. The grand prize at the tournament was a plane ticket to Gencon 2012 to go to their Immortal Tournemnt! IMO, that just shows what great support they give.

My thoughts on Dark Age are that I'd rather play Hell Dorado. I find the miniatures to be a total letdown vs. the concept art in the book (a real shame, because of the minis lived up to the concept art, they would be some of the finest minis in existence, IMO), and the ruleset itself doesn't really offer me any compelling reason to play (in terms of innovative gameplay mechanics, etc.)

Dark Age is a phenomenal game, its a hell of a lot of fun, and one of the most relaxed games I've played in a while, because literally, everything dies.

We started carrying it two weeks ago, and we have picked up about 25 players so far, its been THAT popular. It's quick to play, easy to learn, and IMO most of the models are pretty nice.

BTW, the ones with the boomerangs are the Outcast Scuts (READ: the kid from Mad Max 2 ) Come up to the store anytime Cody and we will run a demo

Most of the models reviewed on BoW looked really good imho but not seen them in the flesh as yet.
Would like to get some in but oversubscribed as it is.

Yeah, tbh, sometimes the paint jobs don't do the minis justice.

I'll have a demo Outcast unit ready for ya

I just got my Skarrd starter box assembled.
I want to get up to 300pts, then I'm done buying.
So many games, so little time.
I've still got to build my Dystopian Wars stuff!

There are very few models in the Dark Age range that I really like. Pity when the art is so good.

Turns out the Harpies in the Skarrd box are Werner Klocke sculpts from 2002.

tbh, 300 is very small, the starter box for Skarrd is 270 alone I believe. I would aim for at least 500

Maybe I meant 500.

I pointed up the starter, plus a few more things awhile back. A sister of Charity, and a big guy I can't think of the name of.

ah there you go probably picked up a Warhead if he's a big guy and other than the Golab. You should be pretty close to 500 with them. I would suggest a few more Buzzblades and use them as Charity's Might or Charity's Zeal, that should bulk you out..or else, some Toxic Mistresses are mean.

That was it!
I was thinking of getting the other blister of Buzzblades as well, for the reason you stated.
At least have different models for different units.

My friend has picked up Outcasts, the Mad Max looking ones with the kids.
Another friend is collecting some Dragyri, though he hasn't gotten a starter, just various minis he liked.

The land of cotton.

Just picked up my first boxes and blisters and had a couple intro games. It's awesome. The game mechanics are easy to grasp, straight forward and require little reference to printed material once you learn the core concepts (Attack Skill + Defense stat = Attack Target Number; Armor Value - Weapon Strength = Save Target Number, lower is better).

Played a 350 and 500 point game in two hours time, and that was with me being a total newb looking up everything. Once you get tooled up with reference aids and have your army skills down, I can see 500 point games in 45 minutes easily.

Personally, I like the models. They have a great amount of character to them; the Forsaken look like religious zealots, and the Outcasts have a nice "Mad Max" look about them.
