So I've been lurking a few forums for awhile, attending local shops, and playing 40k games here or there.

I decided to jump in and bought the AoBR set and sold the Marines away. I've been diligently assembling my miniatures and, not content with the rather generic positions AoBR comes with, done quite a bit of hacking, re-positioning and green-stuffing.

I have a few questions first off as a new player, then as a new writer.

First off, I've been so excited that I've just been assembling stuff. I'm about 7 boyz and the deffkopta's in and it hit me that I might have wanted to paint them or base them before I assembled them. Do you guys paint then assemble or assemble then paint? Maybe some step-by-step mix of the two?

Then, do I want to put terrain on my base before or after I put the mini in it?

The entire time I look at these orky dudes and super glue the ever-loving-crap out of my fingers, random bits of fluff just worm their way into brain, and I already have lots of character in just a few boyz. Most notable is Peg-leg Pete who is missing a leg and has the bottom half of a chopstick instead. I have one with a fondness for cigars, twins, and I have lots of ideas set up for the other ones. This being said, a good solid fluff for my army is super-important to me.

I was thinking of making them a descendant clan of the Bad Moonz. I really like their fluff and color scheme, but I wanted to make a few changes. Let me know what you think.

Name: LugJak's Loota's
Permanent Settlement - Da Rok - Large Asteroid-turned-Spacecraft. Despite it's awkward shape and primitive build, Da Rok is a formidable space fortress. It is slow and barely maneuverable. Even the best Ork Mekboyz are only really capable of making it go "Up an' down an' side-a side." What it lacks in maneuverability, however, it more than makes up for in firepower. Da Rok is covered in so many weapons (a good portion of them non-functional) that it could be a fleet in itself.

LugJak's Loota's are a band of space roaming pillagers. They travel from planet to planet, murdering the native denizens(if present) and stripping the planet of its resources. They are extremely bloodthirsty but also have a weak spot for valuable goods and will hire themselves out as mercenaries if the price is right.

Much of their gear is practical tools that have been converted to deadly weapons of war. More than one of LugJak's Orks bring their pick, drill or augur into the fray. Similarly, most of their vehicles are designed to transport coal, iron or other resources first, but work equally well for carting Orks around.

Although terrifying to an underdeveloped people, LugJak's Loota's pose no real threat to any planet with a real defense or real army. LugJak's boyz are so short-thinking that by the time they've exhausted the planet, they barely have enough resources to get a dozen or so ramshackle rockets back to Da Rok.

They have a slightly more centralized structure than most orks and are relatively peaceful within their own ranks, although vicious to other clans of orks (unless selling loot ). The clan is almost just as home swinging a pick at a rock as they are swinging it at a human head.

It's still pretty underdeveloped, I know, but I figured I'd share in the growth of this clan start to finish. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share.

I like the fluff for "Da Rok." It's very Orky and funny as well. Overall this is a well thought out clan. It's unique in that it's more financially based and has less infighting, it isn't a "Mary Sue" and the miniatures sound good. I want to see a pic of Peg Leg Pete.
