Hey guys! I've been meaning to get one of these going for a while and decided it's time. I've had these old beater Guardians around for a while and haven't spent time on them because I don't really play them. But then I came up with a neat idea for a paintscheme and figured what the heck, all my other Eldar are done. I had inspiration from how a lot of people paint Dark Eldar these days, with a dark base and much lighter edging. I wanted the armor to almost have a "glowy" appearance, and for it to look really alien and futuristic. I think I accomplished this alright. Anyways, here's the models:
I think they look pretty cool. I did them fairly quickly as I plan to do up two squads of 10 and don't want to dump too much time into Guardians. I could do more work on the eyes, for example. Any ideas on something quick to give the eyes some more depth? Also as you'll notice, the bases aren't done so I'll need to do those.
I'll have the other 4 of this squad done soon, as well as their warlock friend. I also plan on renovating a Wraithlord or two. I saw some pictures of the Wraithlord kitbashed with a War Walker to make this cool looking centaur, bright stalion kinda thing. I think I'm gonna try that. If anyone has any tips here or links to someone elses rendition of this, that would be awesome.
So yeah, there it is, my first P&M post. Let me know if you guys want to see anything in particular from the rest of the army as well.
Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks for the comments guys! Marmaduke-I'll try and get some more pictures up of other things soon. It's a start with Dark Angles Green all over, a fat highlight of Snot Green and a finer highlight of Scorpion Green. Then I wash around the Scorpion Green with Thrakka Green wash, do the grey and bone, and then pick out the gems and eyes. It's really pretty quick.
Warboss Gutrip- Thanks, and yeah I guess it is a little closer to how people paint Dark Eldar than generally Craftworlders. I've always thought super bright Eldar were kinda goofy looking...personally I think darker tones suit them.

Pretty interesting paint job, but I do have a comment about the blue eyes.
It seems a bit to plain compared with the rest of the paint job.. I would build up from a darker blue colour from the edge to give it more dept. Or give it a wash and let the darker blue build up in the corners.
Not a big fan of to bright eldar either.

They look great! For the eyes, you probably just need a little glowspot of slightly brighter blue in there.
The black, green and bone make nice contrasts.

Haha yeaaah...the candy corn thing. I can do wet blending ok, but on such small spaces its tricky, and like I said I'm not trying to spend a ton of time on these guys so yeah, it is what it is.
Got some updates! The first squad of 10 is done down to the bases, unless I decide to go back and so something with the eyes. I have some ideas I might try out. Here's some pictures!
And just so you know I was serious about these being beater guardians, here's some of the next after the very basics of fixing up:
The solid green one is an almost finished version of how I used to paint them. The white-ish one was an experiment with washes I think, a looong time ago. And that blotchy guy...I believe I let my cousin paint with me ages ago and he was the unfortunate volunteer for the gig. His arms are off of an older guardian that became a jetbike rider I think. I've got 8 so far and another old metal gun platform, I just need to snag a few more, a shuriken cannon off of a viper or wave serpent (I like them better than the ones that come with the wraithlords/guardians/war walkers) and another warlock and this pair of squads will be on their way to maybe being used in games, just because I like how they look.
AND I decided to renovate and repaint one of my wraithlords to match this style. I built him originally with a rifle style bright lance and under-slung missile launcher, so I retained that concept but fancied him up a little more. He was the first of the plastic wraithlords I've built and painted, but now he's new and improved and soon to be painted that way. Here he is:
Not the best picture, I think the pose is better in person. He's kind of stalking forward and blasting from the hip, cause he can.
So yeah! Thanks for the comments thus far, and keep them coming! I'll post some update when I have them.

Wraithlord update!
I re-base coated him and slapped on some dark angels green. As you can see, the one leg is done to match the guardians paint style, and I think it looks pretty slick. I don't want to do the entire model that way though...I was thinking about doing the knees, shoulders, and hip plates either bone or grey to break things up a bit. I'm leaning towards bone. What do you guys think?

I'll post more updates when I have them...and that second unit of guardians should be underway soon, so expect them as well. Thanks for checking in!

Tbh, I thought those flat green parts (the head and shoulders) with white outlines were fantastic. I was sad to see them go.
Perhaps they would be a good medium between an overly contrasting bone colour and the whole model being painted the same.

Hey gang! Got some more work done on the Wraithlord. I'm still stuck on the shoulders and knees...I did them bone just to see how it looked and I kinda like it. What do you guys think, should I keep it or change it to the green? Other than that, the gems, and his base he's mostly finished.
Chillin with some Guardians. I like how the color scheme holds them together.
Also just for kicks here's my other Wraithlord. One of his flamers is broken :( I went for a lance arm kinda thing which I think is pretty cool. The other big gun can go on his shoulder...there's a magnet there.
I might get him painted soon to match the rifle lord, but I have some other projects on my mind too.
Comments? Questions? Hate? Love? Give me them all. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, anyone who knows a cheap way to cast/would be willing to cast me some parts or put me in touch with someone who is, please let me know.

Hey guys! Thanks for the support. I didn't want to be one of those PnMs with no comments that dries up and dies...that would be discouraging. Anyways, here's a little update! I decided to keep the bone sections, mostly because I pictured how my wraithlord would look without his gun. The solid green would be too much I think...the bone parts kind of frame the model, I think it's called a spotting color? They draw the eye to the center essentially.
So I did some highlighting on them. I tried to brush on some gradiant along the raised portions of the knees and shoulders like I did on his head, but it might be washed out in the pictures. I'm pretty proud of how it came out. It's subtle.
Also I've been trying to make the gems look better. I think so far on this guy they do. A bit more gradual, and less candy corn. What do you guys think? Again, the camera flash will prolly wash them out and make them look less gradual, but such is life.
Yeah so he's nearly done, I really just have to finish the gems out.
PICTURES:
I decided to take on fixing up my Dire Avengers as my next project. Here's the most recent one's I've done:
The other 2 squads of 10 were done ages ago. They don't look bad, but I didn't use washes at the time at all so I'm going to go back and edge around the gems and details like I did on these 6. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance of some before and after shots and you guys can tell me what you think.
Down the pipe, I guess I need to do that other wraithlord up, and that other guardian squad. I also want to convert up some warp spiders. I have a squad of the metal models, but as I'm sure you guys know they're pretty...boring. I know what I want to do, but I need a ton of the exarch's backpack which is why I inquired about anyone who can give me tips or help me out with some basic casting. If you might be willing to cast some for me, PM me or something.
Anyways, thanks for checking in! More to come.

Those dire avengers look great! I like how you differentiated them. And the yellow-black helmets are great.
Your lance wraithlord evokes a certain 'Fire Dragon Exarch' feel. I like.
For Warp Spider backpacks, I've had some success using plasticard and half a 25mm base with some guitar wire to convert up some. But of all my conversions to aspect warriors from Dire Avengers, Warp Spiders have been the most difficult. I can't wait to see what you do with them.

UPDAAAATE! Wraithlord is done! I think he came out quite neat. Here ya go: Also I've been working on updating dire avenger squad blue. The exarch and three others are done so far. I've outlined the details in black wash and put on an additional highlight of scorpion green. Here's the four finished ones: For reference, here's how they looked un-updated: And a comparison. Left is updated, right is not if you couldn't tell somehow. As I'm sure is evident, these guys don't look as nice as squad yellow, being years older. I think these quick updates bring them in line though without me having to put a ton of work in. Also, the bases suck on all but 2 of them. So if I have time eventually I probably re-do those. Soooo next up, I guess will be finishing blue squad, moving on to red squad, and maybe painting two more members of yellow squad to bring them up to eight and maybe a different exarch I have floating around. Then I guess...we can touch up their rides? Touch up my falcons and vipers? Paint these other guardians and wraithlord? Lots to do it seems. Oh something I wanted advice on: I don't like how the banners look so far. The brown with a white avenger rune is...blah. I'm thinking about trying a black background with a lightning pattern that has corresponding colors, and the rune overtop of that maybe. So blue squad would have blue lightning, so on so forth. Thoughts? Thanks for checking in! Gimme some comments...haha

I made that green when I painted him originally and I don't remember the mix exactly. It should be Goblin Green or Snot Green with either white or Bleached Bone mixed in a little. It looks to me like Goblin. If you use the bone as a mixer, the highlights should work even better too. That white doodad on his "face" is something off of the Eldar transfer sheet that I thought looked neat. If I can find another one I might put it back but I'm not sure yet.
What's weird to me about the scheme being "Dark Eldar-y" is that dark greens have been the basis of my color scheme for years, waaaay before the dark Eldar models were even a rumor. All I've added really is the brighter highlight to make things pop. It makes sense to me that similar paint schemes would work between dark and craftworld Eldar...they are the same basic aesthetic after all. Someone should try a craftworld scheme on DE to see how it looks. Mottled blue like Alaitoc might be kinda cool on warriors and raiders...hmmm...
