Hey guys, been reading Dakka for a while now, thought i'd jump on board and lend my voice where i can.

little bit about me

used to collect when i was in primary/high school. started off with fantasy (orcs) because let's face it, when you're 12, orcs are badass.
did the hobby with my dad (TK + VC)

we switched over to 40k in 2003 or so so i started chaos and my dad started orks.

also had standing forces of grey knights and bolter bitches that i played occasionally.

dire circumstances found my models thrown into boxes by people with no respect nor care for their worth (both monetary and sentimental) so i officially have bits boxes worth beyond a few grand.


so now, here i am. getting back into the hobby on my own, starting up a space marine chapter of my own devising, and looking to start a standing force of imperial guard AC later on.

If you are looking to start Vanilla Marines some great kits for better looking models are Sanguinary Guard, Space Wolves Pack, Death Company, Grey Knights and of course you still need Tactical Marine Packs. They take a little extra work shaving off unwanted symbols but the end product is worth it!

I've been doing Space Marines for 5 years just in case you were curious.

what i'm aiming for back story and visual motif - wise, are vikings from a jungle planet.
so i'm sorting out how to do scales, and i'm going to use those as a major motif, shoulder pads. sides of vehicles and the like. i've already got most of my models, just need to get my razorback, mod that up with a TLAC and get my assault marines.

then comes painting. lol

Ok then for scales the easiest thing is to get the new liquid green stuff and just do it drops at a time, will give a scale effect. What color scheme were you thinking of doing?

You may want to take a look at the Dark Elf Corsair cloaks for your Marines. Nice and scaley!

purple with silver trim.

and then each squad will have it's own coloured shoulder pad scales, with each "type" tac, ass, being drawn from a specific colour pool, so troops will be blue, fast attack red (because red goes faster ) and so on and so forth

Those colors will look nice, if you want a third color you should use yellow, silver and purple will get highlighted by yellow.
