Hello Dakka!
Our next Warhammer 40k tournament is coming up this weekend on Saturday! I know a lot of folks are spent from Comikaze, but if you still have the juice, come on down for another round! We have finally settled in around here and the place is looking really awesome. I will, as usual, be handing out plenty of odds and ends for door prizes, so get your models and get down here!
We'll be doing another round of the same 'Ard Boyz-style, winner takes all event we did last time, so bring the heat! No comp, no sports, battle points only, come to win!
Sportsmanship will not be scored, instead I'm going to have a simple one-warning system. If a played has a legitimate complaint levied against them for unsportsmanlike play, they'll be notated as such, and any subsequent legitimate complaints will result in the player in question being asked to leave the event.
Scenarios will again be "from the book" with some minor special rules here and there to spice things up. We will be using an 'Ard Boyz style Massacre-Major-Minor-Draw scoring setup. Don't worry though.. there won't be anything silly like Victory Points! Tiebreakers will be scenario bonus points first, followed by strength of schedule, followed by poetry slam competition, followed by a light lunch, then a sudden-death game of jacks. In the case of an odd number of players, one player per round will get the bye, which will count as a Major victory with no bonuses.
Since we are taking all the gloves off on this one, I do have some basic requirements for armies. Armies must be comprised of GW models, must be comprised of a majority of models from the relevant codex, and fully assembled with all primary wargear represented on the model. WYSIWYG is the rule. I will make exceptions for conversion and 'counts-as' work if notified in advance, so I can take a look at the models in question and decide whether to allow them or not. If you're not sure about something, please let me know beforehand. You can contact me at the store, information below.
I will be keeping strict watch of the round times during the event, and I will be walking around the tables during games to help keep people on track. Games that do not go for a minimum of four full turns will not be scored and count as a loss for both players.
The first place player takes the whole hog, all $150 in GW product (straight value, no tax) right off the shelves and goes home to swim around in new plastic bits! Painting will be judged separately from the main event, with armies in consideration being scored by a panel of judges. Highest score takes home the painting trophy and whatever other swag I can rustle up! I will also be giving out other door prizes and so on as I see fit.
For the tournament there is a $10 entry (or $20 purchase) to play. The doors will be open early for players to come in and get set up. As usual, I want to kick this one off as close to 10:00am as possible so we don't go too long.
The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
8:30ish - 9:30 - Show up early, have donuts with Travis (B&C donuts on Alta Dena and Foothill is particularly good for those of you in a generous mood! ), talk shop, complain about the new Necrons seizing on a 4+/the newest FAQ nonsense/6th ed rumors
9:30am - 10:00 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:00am - 12:15pm - Round 1
12:15 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:45 - Round 2
4:00 - 6:15 - Round 3
6:30 - Winners announced
It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena:
1795 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91106

Make sure you note the new address!

Can we use the new Necron codex or are we giving it the standard month to sink in?

I'm happy letting folks use the new book if they want. No crazy proxies though, so bear in mind that you can't count your necron warriors for all sorts of new shiny stuff. ...Except Pariahs. If you've got those (now aptly named) models, they can be whatever you want from the new book that's on the same size base.
Is a month standard? Is there a standard anymore? Or is that just something from the dusty shelves of Mars that we now half-remember?

Good luck and have fun!
I for one am going to put my $$$ where my mouth is and no longer attend any tournaments at 2K that have less than 2 1/2 hour rounds (just not what I enjoy).
But I hope everyone else shows up and has a great time!

GE hosts one every second saturday of the month. There was one hiatus due to 'Ard Boyz in Sept.

Just for Yak, our next event will be a 650-point 'Battleforce Brawl', with three and a half hour rounds, not including a mandatory 30-minute strategic intermission each round!
Seriously, though, we usually do pretty well on time, though I know 2:15 is a little quick. We have been wrapping up relatively quickly lately; if today goes like the last few I might consider adding some extra time. That being said, (and this may just be my whip-cracking), but ever since I started keeping track of how many rounds games have been going to I haven't seen more than a handful of 4-turn games, and that's been most of this year.
Though, fingers crossed that 6th gets rid of random game length!

Phaze24's Deathwing beat poster spumubi's (sp?) Parking Lot for top prize. spumubi's Parking Lot took Best Painted (deservedly so).
"Door" prises, which Disdainful tries to make as amusing as possible, that is blister packs that don't fit your army are good for a laugh (and trading later). , First was an ork kommando bunra blister for me (I don't run orks) and ... 2nd a CSM character (sorcerer?) )for my last opponent whose BAs whupped my Dark Eldar.
Items of note (as best I can recall):
Dark Eldar was most represented with 3 players (including me). Each was a combo of raiders, ravagers, venoms, warriors and wyches.
Dakkanaut Skrewpa ran a non-Monolith necron list (had a Ghost Ark, IIRC) and Imotekh from the new dex. He faired in mid-field for the day.
2 BA players, DW, SW, 2 GKs, IG, CHaos SM, Tau, Necrons. I'm missing a few.
About 15 or 16 participants. The event wrapped nicely at 6:30, Disdainful intended.
It was a pretty good event, even after the pressure was off me when I was Massacred Round 1.

It was a good day, nice and smooth with no issues. Deathwing won the day, with IG taking the painting prize.
We had fourteen, pretty solid turnout and a good field with lots of good players. I had a blast, and I hope everyone else did too! We'll be doing it all again in December, so stay tuned here for the announcement. We might mix things up format-wise next time as well. No promises on the time limits though, Yak!
