Hello all, I recently started up a Wood Elves list for an escalation campaign, and I'm perplexed. I've done OK so far, but certain things really destroy me. I have a pretty decent list (first one listed below), and another was suggested to me that I tried, but it seems too fragile at 500 points...what do you all think?

Thranduil
3 co Wood Elves with Longbows
3 co Wood Elves with Longbows
2 co Sentinels

or

Thranduil
3 co Gildor's household
2 co Wood Elves with Longbows

The second list doubles the Wilderness magic I can throw out, but it costs me three companies of elves...I'm already outnumbered two to one by the bad guys. I'm also slightly conflicted regarding the use of Gildor in a Mirkwood list. Rules-wise in WotR they fit in just fine, but the only time Gildor is mentioned in the Lord of the Rings (the trilogy), Sam states they are clearly High Elves. They're also nowhere near Mirkwood...The problem is that Mirkwood is EXTREMELY limited if you don't branch out some. Meh...

Fixed it for you. Woot Misty Mountains!

I'd take the first list, but alter it slightly to have:

Thranduil
3 co Wood Elves with Longbows
2 co Wood Elves with Longbows
3 co Sentinels

That's 500pts on the nose(your original one is 495) and the Sentinels are much better for 5pts more than the company of Woodelves.

I do like the idea of having both Gildor and Thranduil to use Call Winds followed by Natures Wrath though. However, I think you'll (continue to)do fine with the list with more companies. And make sure that you take the Inner Glory Fortune when you fight at the place where Good gets a free 50pts fortune. It's awesome for your list!

That's a good point...I had been thinking that the smaller stand of Sentinels was good because it has slightly better survivability, but I see what you're saying.

As far as fortune, I think I'd rather just play where bad guys have lower courage
