here are a few questions I have about the game..and here they are.

1.) can you design your own commander, or do you have to use the ones they give you like warmachine?

2.) do you have to get eh starter pack to begin or can I get the Shock Army of Acontecimento to start off with?

3.) can you mix different sub-factions of main factions in one army?

4.)how many D20 do you need?

those are all I can think of. but any info you have would help immensely.

You pick your commander from the unit types that allow a Lieutenant option, and then decided which of the models of that type that you have is him.

Eg. PanO can have a Fusilier Lt, Kamau Lt, Aconticemento regular Lt, auxilia Lt, Bagh Mari Lt, Akal Lt, Nisse Lt, Cutter (TAG) Lt, etc.

These are all unit types.

Say you choose to have a kamau Lt (and you have three kamau models to choose from in your collection). The kamau Lt option has the same weapons as the basic guy (combi rifle) so if you had two kamau models with combi rifles and one with a HMG, EITHER of the two combi rifle guys can be the Lt (pick one of them, no swapping until he is dead.)

2. You don't need to buy a starter box. If you are going to use most of them, then get one. If you don't like any of them or won't use them, then just buy blisters or boxes of minis.
3. Not in a tournament. Not usually in a friendly (IME). Pick a faction or a sectorial. Factions can use ALL of the units available for them, Sectorials have a smaller choice of units, but higher availability of them to compensate. E.G. PanO faction armies can use ALL of the units listed under that faction in the lists, using the AVA listed in the unit descriptions. Neoterran sectorial (PanO) cannot take Kamau units, croc-men, Cutters (TO camo TAG), but has access to higher numbers of what units it can take (normally an Aquila guard unit is AVA1 in PanO. In Neoterra, it is AVA3).

4. 4-5 of them. One for each shot a weapon can fire (look under the B value). A HMG generally has B4, so you would roll 4 dice. Sometimes you can get +1B on top of this, so that would then be 5.

Thank you for that. Now I love the cutter its just awsome but what other units can i take with it like Acontecimento, croc men and what not.

It's a great help. It's also free.
It lets you build an army for any of the factions and their sectorials - and it will not show you units the variant armies cannot take.

If you want to take the Cutter, for example, you pretty much have to take the "vanilla" PanOceania faction (which means you can take the Acontecimento regulars, croc men, etc units) as there is no sectorial currently that can take it).

Nothing stopping you from buying the model and just USING it as one of the other TAGs that doesn't have a model yet, though (Tikbalang TAGs for Acontecimento, for example).

You have been a wonderful help, and sorry for all the questions. Ive been reading the rules but its still very complicated and I plan on buying my army next week. I'm trying to make sure its playable. So far I'm planing a cutter as leader, the PanO starter box and a Shock Army of Acontecimento box would this work together or be invalid?
Theres no one around here to ask I'm kinda the breaking the Ice at my game store too get people on the wagon.

13 figures, 356 pts, SWC4 (this is your special weapon cost. You are allowed 1 per 50pts, so at 300, you can have up to SWC6)
56 points over for a tournament sized army (300 is normal for tourneys).

3 figures over for a combat group. Whilst you could split those 3 off into a 2nd group, they only receive orders from their group (and you can't pass off orders from the other group to them) and since you're 56pts over anyway, dump 3 figures that put you over.
It's just easier. Worry about two combat groups after you've got a few games under your belt.

To get to the 300pts, I'd drop one combi-rifle Acontecimento regular (because you can only have 2 in a PanO army anyway - The Acontecimento sectorial shock army can have TOTAL AVA, so the box is fully 'legal' as-is ONLY for that army) to start with.

Then two others that add to 46pts. I'd keep the knight with combi-rifle over the Orc troop (both are Heavy Infantry (HI) with -3BTS (it's a mod to make hacking harder) so drop the orc (for now). Which makes the third choice harder.

I'd go with one of the cheap order generators. Either a fusilier with combi rifle or another regular with combi-rifle.

But, you could upgrade one of the fusiliers or Aconte regulars left to be a paramedic (not as good as a trauma-doc for patching up wounded - he's a soldier, first) it's a 14 point model over a 10 pt one.

That gives you a legal 300pt army with 10 orders and models, some Aerial deployment, mechanised deployment, TO camo, jungle and water terrain operations and some equipment to play around with to learn the game parts.

With a TAG and HI, and no defensive hacker, you are somewhat susceptible to hacking and immobilising and/or possession (you can immobilise HI with a hacker, you can yoink control of a TAG with a hacker's possession) but hacking is one of the advanced rules.

Just because a model has a certain skill, doesn't require you to use it.
A camouflage model CAN be deployed as a marker, but doesn't have to be. You just don't get his advantages (can't shoot a marker - CAN shoot a model).

Just a tip.
If you come from 40K and you are very used to that kind of battle... really erase all that kind of troop behaviour and movement from your mind.
The quicker you could reset you mind and reboot it with the Infinity rules System the easier would be for you to understand the game and not fall into frustration and madness.

Also, forget about playing Cutter or any TAG at moment. No matter how cool they may look, TAGs are something anyone tryin to learn how to play the game should stay away of. TAGs are very powerful and can ruin the game experience of any new player. Moreover, the Cutter is probably the most powerful TAG in the game. If you want it then buy it , paint and store it for when you and your group have become more experienced player.

I was assuming he already HAD the army lists.

The AB will assist because if he chooses a sectorial list, it will not show him units that army cannot take (it IS confusing to people who have just jumped into Infinity with the differing AVAs and stuff).

Really, the Army Builder is a great learning tool for getting the hang for list building. If not just for, being able to hit a check mark and know if it a legel build. Ofcouse everything in the Army Builder being hyperlinked to the Infinity Wiki is the best thing about it.

I have a question. I'm looking at the army builder and trying to make a force of Haqqislam. I want to put a Haqla with a ML in the list, but when I look through their miniature line I don't see the option to get a Haqla model with a ML. What do I do?

CB policy is, use proxy for them until the model is released. Most often a model of the same unit type if there one. The rule is when the model hits the table you tell everything about, except thats it's your Lt. So just make sure your opponent knows what it is and everything should be fine. Or convert your own.

Find a missile launcher bit somewhere and blu-tak it to the base of the model that you wish to use as it (another model from that unit type).

I do this for my Fusilier (PanO) missile launchers.
No models - so two fusiliers have magnetised bases so that I can add a missile to them should I need one (or two, three or more).
