Chapter Name: The Devourers.

Founding: 21st Founding.

Homeworld: Formerly an unknown planet in the Segmentum Tempestus, now fleet bound.

Founding Legion: Unknown, believed to be Salamanders.

Colours: Camo Green, with black trimmings.

Force Size: Unknown, at time of rebellion was approx. 1000 marines.

Specialities: Close range fire fights, and Tyranid hunting.

History:
1st company sent to take part in 13th Black Crusade. Suffer minor casualties, though Chapter Master of the time killed by Greater Demon. Remainder of chapter besides 8th, 9th and 10th companies called in for reinforcements. However, 5th company is attacked en route by a tyranids splinter fleet, and nearly fully destroyed.

The chapter takes 20 years to replenish its ranks, and is then seen in full force taking on a splinter of Hive Fleet Colossus. In these series of battles in the Agrax system, the 5th company yet again was nearly destroyed after an ambush by Tyranid Lictors. This is the last time the chapter is heard from until M40, when they were put up for an Inquisition inquest into the supposed mutations in some of their marines.
They reportedly went renegade in 756.M40, when they attacked an Inquisitor's flagship. Their last reported sighting was in near the Eye of Terror in 634.M41, when an unknown force of space marines raided a loyalist chapter's gene seed stocks.

It sounds good so far, but you have a large jump between fighting nids than going renegade. Also what was the mutation? Was it something that enhanced their fighting ability or was it something more insidious. I'd love to read more, so keep up the good work.

It'd be nice to know why they turned traitor and what, if anything, mutated them.

With the mutation, its just because the 21st founding is unlucky and many of the chapters developed genetic idiosyncracies. It also says in the lexicanum that this puts a strain on the inquistion's tolerance, and hinders the ability for the chapter to use its own geneseed (thats why it stole geneseed from other loyalists).

Also, the large jump is just because they were rebuilding their forces, and also trying to hide the mutations etc from the inquisition.

As for the mutations, I havent decided what they'd be yet. However I'm leaning towards something similiar to the techo virus of the obliterators.
