Well, getting started with Infinity and picked Ariadna as my faction. I like the fluff behind them alot, and I already ordered the starter set from the war store. I was trying to think of what I should purchase to make it to 200 points. I was thinking about picking up a HMG and the Autocannon, wich would end up like this:

Combat Group 1 Orders: 8

Line Kazak » Lieutenant SWC:0.0 Cost:9
Line Kazak » Rifle SWC:0.0 Cost:9
Line Kazak » Rifle SWC:0.0 Cost:9
Zouave » Sapper SWC:1.5 Cost:31
Tank Hunter » Autocannon SWC:1.5 Cost:40
Highlander Grey » RifleLight Shotgun SWC:0.0 Cost:30
Veteran Kazak » X Visor SWC:0.0 Cost:49
Chasseurs » RifleLight FT SWC:0.0 Cost:19

Total SWC: 3.0 Total Points: 196

This seems like a good basic force from which to expand, what do you guys think?

It's certainly a solid list. A little low on orders for my taste, just a little, if possible aim at 10 regular orders, but 8 it's perfectly playable.

For future additions you can't go wrong with a Para Commando HMG and a SAS with Chain Rifle and Assault pistol.

I like the SAS models, and was thinking about adding a few of those when I expand to 300, as well as maybe a Sniper and/or a doc. How many orders do people shoot for at that level?

The golden rule of thumb 150pts to 300pts is try to always have a minimum of 8 regular orders and 10 is preferred. Everything you do takes an order so the less orders you have the lest tactical you can be.

I've definitely play a few matches with just what you have coming in and you "feel" what is needed or what you like. I've played a lot of games at this point, but Infinity has a unique way of "you units are as good as you play them" even though some are noticeably better then others. I personally am TERRIBLE at TO Camo stuff, like pathetically bad. However I'm very skilled with remotes and hackers.

I like it because is a list with available good-looking miniatures and it almost reaches 10 orders. Also Lt. is not obvuois.
Good work.

So... 8 orders is considered too few at 200 points?

Really?

So, how many groups do you find yourself having at 300 points?

One group with 10 and another group with...?

Or, more probably, 10 with some higher priced models?

I'm not an english native speaker, but In my opinion there's a considerable difference between "too" and "few" . At least as I was taught... Also I made clear it was my personal opinion, based on how I feel more comfortable playing with.

I don't know if you are intending on making me look like a noob, but, in such case, that's the worst move you could make.

-150 pts: Players should aim at minimum 6 regular orders, highly desirable 8.
-200 pts: At least start with 8 regular orders, I would go for a 10 man combat group with 8-10 regular orders.
-250 pts: Full 10 man combat group. Try to start with at least 8 regular orders in the pool.
-300 pts: Very well equipped 10 man group or switch to two combat groups 7 -7 is balanced, 9-9/10-8 desirable but has a loss on in quality. Veteran players are experienced enough to command a full 10 man combat group and a lesser combat group or play things like 6 - 6 .

You're never really worse off if you assume the best and not the worst, at least to start...

Especially on the Internet, where tone is a tough one to determine.

So..settle down - I fully admit I AM THE NOOB when it comes to Infinity.

And as such, I appreciate your opinion AND your advice!
