Hello Dakka!
We tried this a couple weeks ago and had a great time with it, so we're doing it one more time before the year ends! So gather your world's smallest 40k armies and come down for a fast and furious full tournament at a tiny size!
We will be playing three rounds in three hours, and all the trimmings of a full-sized 40k tournament apply! That means sportsmanship and paint scoring, tournament scenarios, player voting, and the whole shebang!
The entry for the tournament is $10, and the event starts promptly at 6:00pm, please be here and ready to go as close to the start time as possible so we can get through the whole thing!
Armies: Players must build a 450 point army from their relevant codex. Players may bring 0-1 HQ choice, at least one Troops choice, and are allowed up to one choice from the Elites, Heavy Support, and Fast Attack Choices. No Vehicles with any armor facing of 13 or above are allowed.
If a player's army cannot be built to satisfy the requirements at this points level, contact me to work out an alternative.
Tables for this event will be 3'x4'.
The end of each round for this event is a strict 'dice down'. When time is called, the players finish resolving whatever they are currently engaged in (conducting the shooting of a unit, moving a unit, fighting a single close combat), and then the game ends and the winner is determined.
Prizes go to the following:
Best Overall - The player with the highest combined Battle Points, Sportsmanship Score, and Painting Score.
Best Painted - The player with the highest painting score
Best Sportsman - The player with the highest sportsmanship score
Scenario 1 - Objectives
This scenario uses the Seize Ground mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: the number of objectives is always 5, and they may not be placed within 8" of the table edge or each other. This scenario uses Pitched Battle deployment. All non-vehicle units may claim objectives in this mission. The game lasts until 5 turns have passed or the round ends.
Scenario 2 - Kill Points
This scenario uses the Annihilation mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: Troops units are worth 1 KP, all other unit types are worth 2 KPs. Deployment for this mission is Spearhead. The game lasts until 5 turns have passed or the round ends.
Scenario 3 - Objectives
This scenario uses the Seize Ground mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: The number of objectives is always 3, and they may not be placed within 10" of the table edge or within 12" of each other. The deployment for this mission is Pitched Battle. The game lasts until 5 turns have passed or the round ends.
Prizes are given out in store credit, door prizes are whatever 40k or gaming related swag I have on-hand tossed to random players that did not win a regular prize. Entry fees for the tournament go directly into the prize pool, so the more players we have, the more prizes we have to give out! Last time we had eleven players, so I'm hoping to see even this time!
And that's it! I've modified the army build rules somewhat from the last one based on some player feedback in the interest of opening the field up for some of the armies that have a harder time with the standard force org chart at such low points. Regardless, bring your best and I'll see you next Tuesday!

The monday traffic is a complete nightmare! Good thing the tournament is on Tuesday! There's like no traffic at all on Tuesdays, so you'll be home free!

Ok, I plan on going. Only thing is on Tuesday I am getting my washing machine repaired and might not get done until later, think an hour or so from South Coast Plaza area is enough time to get to your store if it comes down to the wire? Otherwise if we get done earlier in the day my wife and I might make a trip and check out the sights in Pasadena and then stroll down to the store at 6.

Thanks for the tournament! It was really fun and great to have good judges. I like the irony in how I fail 10/15 armor saves on Paladins and then get Sanguinary Guard as a door prize...More 2+ saves for me to fail? =)
I'll definitely have to make it down for more events, LOVE the new location.
AND, its handicap friendly; go go city inspectors!

I did a quick recap of the games I played here http://www.3forint.com/2011/12/450-points-is-apparently-not-my-sweet.html
It's an interesting format, but it seems like it might need some more work to flesh it out. I dunno, we'll see how the next one goes!

Thanks for coming, glad you enjoyed the new place! I'm sorry about those armor saves man, it was a little brutal to have such a sweep of ones in two games! But, you know that those Sanguinary Guard are *never* going to fail an armor save if you ever get around to using them!
We might up the points again, a lot of people didn't read the dispatch and didn't know that HQ choices were a 0-1 option, so that alone might have opened things up a bit. To be honest, games at such low points are very rock-paper-scissors anyway and there's not a lot of balancing to be done without really reaching into the system and codices for specific restrictions. At the moment, I'm happy that it's a cool break from the pick-up games norm, and it's a fun showcase as well. I'll probably start doing at least one of these a month from now on, which allows guys who might miss the regular RT to get a tournament of sorts in, and I know plenty of guys who have talked about putting together 500-point expansion armies from codexes they'd never do a full 2k army of.
In any case, yet again we had a great, fun night, so thanks to everyone who came and stay tuned for the next one in January!

Right on, do it up as you see fit, man. You're the boss. Maybe next time I'll try to play to the mission instead of bringing a silly list, lol
