Tea-Kettle of Blood
|
I'm planning my second Infinity army and since I love the Aragoto, I decided to go with Yu Jing's JSA.
My problem is that I have very little experience with the game so I don't really know what to aim for yet. I tried to make one with the starter set + aragoto box + ninja hacker and ninja sniper, but this only came down to 274 points and frankly I don't know if it is any good...
With this in mind, could anyone recomend a fairly competitive JSA 300 pts list, with the sole constraint being that it has to use at least 2 Aragoto? Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, after messing about with the army builder, I came to this:

You'll have better luck signing up to the official boards and getting advice on list building for specific forces there.
The aragoto are fast - but impulsive - they HAVE to make their first move value towards the enemy (but they do get their additional order in which to do this).
Upgrade a keisotsu to a ML or HMG to start with.
(it's another blister for either).
If you're going to use the Oniwaban as LT, then deploy him as a marker or model. Hidden risks LoL status.
There are lots of "competitive" builds for lists - no one army has the monopoly on it in infinity. Competitive is how well you use the tools you have.

For using this compettitive 300pts Japanese list you will need:
- Japanese Starter
- Aragoto bikes
- O-Yoroi TAG
- Ninja
Be careful using the bikes, their impetuous order makes them move before anything else and they probably get exposure to enemy lines of fire. To avoid this you can cancel their Impetuous order by spending a regular order, or you can just simpley deploy them thinking about their impetuous movement so they stay safe, usually by the table side.
Have a nice day.

Hey- just a little more advice from a fellow Dakkanaut:
The first thing to remember in Infinity is to watch your order pool. When it dips below 7, you're usually in a bit of trouble. For that reason I would not recommend the 7/5 order split list. However, (as you seem to have guessed) if one -does- do a second, light-on-orders group, putting your link team there is the lesser of several evils.
I'd say BobbaFett's list has some cool toys and is a good start, but it will be a bit order starved and not everything in it will get used well. 2 Ninjas, an HI, a TAG, and your 2 Aragotos- that's a lot of heavy hitters to order around, or a lot of wasted orders.
At the very least, drop the Domaru in favor of a missile launcher for the Keisotsu. Link teams are really, really good for keeping your "order monkeys" alive, and even making them offensively useful from time to time. Getting them up to 5 makes Keisotsus' low BS not as much of an issue, too.
I'd recommend something a bit more like this:
JAPANESE SECTORIAL ARMY

This will still be an aggressive build, but will have more orders from the get-go and a better chance of some of your Aragotos living through their headlong plunge downfield (more orders and some smoke support). Use Kitsune's smoke whenever you can, and don't be afraid to advance with your impetuous troops. JSA are really in-your-face. That can be a disadvantage if your group just plays regular old shoot-em-ups without missions, but when you're trying to gain ground or seize an objective the JSA really shine.

Savnock you can only have 10 guys in a combat group, not 11.

I got rid of the 7/5 split, I still have the 5 man linked Keisotsu, one of them with a ML, and I got room to put in a O-YOROI by taking out both Domarus and the Kempei.

PhantomViper, that's some good progress. That's a very playable list. I see a couple of sticky points for it, but they might be things you could learn to play round. Also, lots of cool toys but not so many that it takes your focus away.
Taking out the Kempei has a big drawback for your list: that O-Yoroi Lt. is -definitely- gonna get killed, and then you're in Loss of Lieutenant. The Kempei saves you from that. If you can find a way to fit one in here, it would let you use your O-Yoroi aggressively with less risk.
Ninja hackers get good access to their targets, but they're not the most skilled at hacking. They also have to reveal themselves if they hack defensively. You might do better to shift the hacking to an Aragoto (who can defend without losing an important advantage). You could also just skip a hacker entirely, and take out hackers by killing them with ninjas and Aragoto before they can hack. Let your O-Yoroi's BTS stand against ay hacking if something goes wrong- it's just about as good as the defensive hacking options you have. YMMV a lot on this one, depending upon how well you can play your ninjas and/or hackers. Experiment, they're all valid options.
Also, 2 TO camo figs means you start with only 8 orders, and don't get more until you reveal your TO mini (which may not be ideal to do in the first turn). Although Impetuous troops help mitigate that, having a lot of orders to get close and maim the enemy (either kill their order monkeys or blunt their offensive units) right away is vital to JSA. So I'd say stick with one ninja for that reason.
Then again I've only been playing for about a year, so YMMV, and maybe you can get better mileage out of your ninjas than I do. That whole "It's not your list, it's you" line you see all over the Infinity boards may be annoying, but it's also mostly true.
300 really does seem like an odd number for JSA- it's hard to get the right amount of support in there, stay in a single combat group, and use all your points. Kind of a juggling act.
Noir wrote:Savnock you can only have 10 guys in a combat group, not 11.
Facepalm! Grr, thought I double-checked before sending that out. Shows what you get making lists on the fly when you're supposed to be working

Camo MARKERS still generate orders.
It's only if TO camo units are deployed HIDDEN that they don't.
You don't HAVE to use hidden deployment (you can always use a lesser form of a skill).
Put the Kempetai back in - that LoL will hurt when the O-Yoroi gets taken down (and with evo repeaters, it's easier than you think to take one down). Yes, he has the koalas as well - but if you kill the controller for a G:servant, they go inactive.

Actually Koalas aren't G: Sync they just follow the owner around and move as though G: Sync. If the owner of the Koalas dies they just won't be able to move during the active phase, but act as normal Koalas during the reactive phase.

You are right, so what about if I make one of the Keisotsu my Lieutenant? That would protect it a little bit more than with the O-Yoroi. (P.S.- I just made the math and this would put me over the limit on SWC, so the O-Yoroi will have to keep being the Lieutenant)
As far as orders go, even if I deploy the Ninja and the Oniwaban in Hidden deployment, I still have a 5 man linked team (and the Aragoto are Impetuous like you said), so I'm imagining that 8 regular orders are more than enough (or better, I'm hopping that 8 regular orders are enough).
Also, I'd never though about going without a hacker, I was thinking of using him to protect the TAG, but if I take out the Ninja Hacker, I can put in Shinobu giving me 2 ultra-sexy killing machines!
Thank you all for your replies, I think I have my shopping list closed... for now!

TAGs as LTs really isn't a bad thing because in all reality if you have brought a TAG and it dies, you are pretty crippled anyhoo due to their point cost and SWC. If it's you LT then it gains the benefit of +1 order.
