I came here on a referral from some of my friends who play DoW 2 Retribution.
I do not yet play the table top game, but I do own all of the PC Warhammer 40k video games. My first of which being DoW Retribution. I got into the games from several reviews talking on how DoW and DoW were excellent video games, and being a avid RTS player myself I wanted to get into them. So I started with the latest game that had come out Retribution. I started at first playing the Space Marine campaign, and I loved it. However my favorite race in all the games, would be Imperial Guard.
To me I love the more comical, and crazy side of Warhammer 40k. While playing Orks well in any of the video games seems to escape me, I love their silly, lighthearted side. I also like the Space Marines not for the whole "Angle of Death" idea, but for the crazy screaming non-nonsensical bald man idea, such as Steel Rahn Boreale, or "BRUVA I AM HEET" Diomedies.
While I like the Grimdark setting, to me an endless parade of hopeless battles and pointless wars starts to wear on me, which is why I think the video games have made a much better story telling medium, because they allow the player to have a victory, and enjoy it to. It's refreshing from the "You won but still lost" sha-bang.
I plan on getting into the table top game as the 121st Cadians.
