So the new rules will be included in the physical book starting in 2012? A little unnerving, logistically. Looking to get into this game, but don't want to buy a rulebook that is about to be invalidated.

It is good that Spartan is working to improve the rules. It would be wise for them to follow what Flames of War is doing, and give out free or discounted copies of the new edition to owners of the current book. This would keep people buying the stuff that is on the shelves, rather than waiting for a new release.
