We are doing a 4 part review of the game:

Here are the show notes =
'Brian rolled this...'

Despite some considerable time arrayed as the Four Ruinous Powers of Chaos, (see our previous jaunt through the Wastes of Chaos) we have to take on their personalities again as we review the game Chaos in the Old World (2009) by Fantasy Flight Games. We unbox the game, resplendent in its dark, menacing, and morose artwork, to consider the shed load of stuff that lays within. Will all the pieces entice and seduce like a Slaaneshi Seductress?

00:26 'nice and dark, and mad'
01:37 'chunky, most of them'
02:47 'like stretched skin'
04:49 'not all equal'
06:10 'the names are quite fruity'
08:31 'a shed load of tokens'
10:00 'boingy flower thing'
11:42 'one for each Power'

1. You're using the errata, right? Slaanesh is ungodly broken without it.
2. I love, love this game, but it's really only good with all four players.

No, we did not use the errata....just as it came from the box...(and after the last game we should have!)

'lovely looking dudes...'

Having previously unboxed Chaos in the Old World (2009) by Fantasy Flight Games, we take a look at each of the Four Ruinous Powers, pondering on how best to play each of them, or avoid if it's Khorne, so as to beat the others into a bleeding mess! They are not at all similar in play style, and not only do you have to play your side in a unique way, your opponents are doing the same.

00:29 'you'd think they'd all be the same'
01:29 'go out and kill...'
04:35 'very cheap'
07:31 'keep away...'
10:33 'very flexible'

I listened to these, and enjoyed them. You guys have a good dynamic; a nice pace of discussion and I think the length is right; enough time to go into some detail but not droning on for an hour.

The only downside is that, having played this a few times, it was apparent that you were all still learning the rules and had only minimal knowledge of the strengths of the factions or the actual strategies of the game. Even some fairly basic and important rules seemed like they might have been missed in places. The idea that the farthest anyone had gotten in VPs was 25, and no one had Ruined a region yet, would have had me spitting out my drink if I had anything in my mouth when I heard it.

Part 3 (Game Turn Part 1)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td0ANTBYodg

Having considered the unique forces within Chaos in the Old World (2009) by Fantasy Flight Games, and how they could play, we now look at how to start the game itself: with the initial set-up and placing of tokens, drawing of various cards, to summoning your forces in preparation of utter World Dominance!!

00:32 'fairly straight-forward'
01:53 'warpstone...peasants...nobles'
05:53 'deal seven'
07:57 'master your cards'
10:59 'a major part of the game'

Hi there Mannahnin!

Thanks very much for your thoughts...we really appreciate the feedback.

As to the VPs and Ruined aspect, we have played around 5 games now and we are only able to report on how our games went...after all, it's all we know! Having playtested other games over the years, and as one of our Team is currently designing their own (WW2) game, we fully appreciate the aspect of rules and how they pan out for certain types of players. We are sure that we HAVE missed certain rules in the reporting of the game - we do not profess to be experts, nor even expert reviewers, just enthusiasts wanting to show others this GREAT game, and that it is certainly worth a look-see/purchase.

We're glad that you enjoyed the videos.

As we say here in New Zealand: 'Kia kaha'...'keep strong' (it's a Rugby/Maori saying)

Team

Understood. I suspect that once someone (Nurgle is a likely candidate) focuses their strategy on Domination and Ruination, you'll see those VPs shoot up faster than you can believe.

FINAL PART AND OUR SUMMARY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8h_dSZoOBM

'ruddy peasants!

Having previously shown the first part of a typical game turn of Chaos in the Old World (2009) by Fantasy Flight Games, we conclude with an explanation of the final elements of a game turn: battle, domination, and corruption; concluding with our individual summations of the game. Do all the tokens, cards, and bendy pieces make you want to kill, befuddle, be-plague, and seduce time after time?

00:35 'four axes...'
02:36 'where is the peasant in all of this?'
03:38 'two shields...'
05:39 '...just to dominate'
07:45 'a two-fold thing'
09:42 'towards fifty'
13:43 'four races to master'
