Hey there... have you checked out Huzzah Hobbies? Also down in Fairfax/Centerville/Chantilly there are a number of stores, one of which is Game Parlor. But if you are looking for a group closer to Herndon/Reston, I highly reccomend checking out Huzzah.
Also if by some small chance you are wanting to throw down this Saturday, I am free. I have an army I have been slowly painting but have never played with. Could be a good ice breaker if you hit up Huzzah.

Games Workshop has a store in Sterling. It's someone hidden, but right off 7100.
A group of us (Roughly 6 or so, but varies based off people's schedules) play weekly at my place in Sterling. (Typically on Sat or Sunday). We're all in our 20s and 30s and take a bit more of a laid back approach. We typically watch movies and drink a few beers. Average day is six hours with two, large games.

I highly recommend both Huzzah and Bubsy. There, I found you an opponent AND a location!
Sadly, Huzzah isn't the greatest for 40k pick-up games - its predominately Flames of War and Malifaux, but with some advance notice, you can usually arrange something ahead of time.

Huzzah will host the occasional 40k game, however. In fact, there was a tournament not so long ago that I took part in. I lost every battle, but I took part in it.
Also, Huzzah sells food, and will order Pizzas for tournaments. That is reason enough to go, apart from the friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
