Man, I was hoping this was a retro review of the old Marvel Super Heroes game.

Anyone know anything about the "Cortex Plus" system?

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I haven't played it but from what I've been told the main point of the system is to reflect not just what kind of "power" a character may or may not have in terms of their abilities but rather to reflect their ability to affect the story via their relationships with other characters. This system has already been used for the Smallville RPG, where you have Clark Kent and Lana Lang as equally playable characters.

Interesting.

1) MWP seems to be gaining some momentum with their system and have managed to snag a few interesting IPs.

2) The book, which I am assuming is a supplement to the Cortex Plus book, will only be $20.

While I didn't hear too good of things about their Firefly RPG, I did hear some pretty good things about their Supernatural RPG. I haven't looked in to the reviews of the Smallville RPG, but, I can only assume Marvel likes the system regardless. This actually makes me want to check out the Cortex Plus rules and see how they work. I was already tempted to by the Supernatural RPG but now that Marvel will be on board I may be too.

I'm back!

Smallville is a good system for having non-powered characters be just as relevant as super-powered characters.

See, that makes a difference. Although I know the Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG wasn't the same system, from what I heard it had problems with everyone wanting to be Buffy, Willow or some other above average person...Everyone likes Xander, but no one is willing to jump up and say they would play that role.

I'm not a huge fan of the Cortex system, but I do own the Firefly and Supernatural RPGs, it works well enough for nonpowered people. I pre-ordered the Marvel game off of Amazon, for $15 I couldn't resist. My expectations are pretty low, but I'll be happy to post my thoughts on it, once I get it.

I look forward to that, adamsouza. I'm interested to see what MWP is selling for that low, low price.

We've been using the Smallville ruleset to play a non-Smallville setting and I have to say I've been extremely impressed- I've never encountered an RPG system that is more conducive to actually creating stories. Generating stories is actually part of the core mechanic- it's really, really fun.

I've heard the Marvel system is similar so it sounds promising.
