Ok 40k fans, it's time again to muster your world's smallest armies for the next Game Empire Pasadena Micro Rogue Trader Tournament!
We will be playing three rounds in three hours, and all the trimmings of a full-sized 40k tournament apply! That means sportsmanship and paint scoring, tournament scenarios, player voting, and the whole shebang!
The event starts promptly at 6:00pm, please be here and ready to go as close to the start time as possible so we can get through the whole thing!
Armies: Players must build a 500 point army from their relevant codex. Players may bring 0-1 HQ choice, at least one Troops choice, and are allowed up to one choice from the Elites, Heavy Support, and Fast Attack Choices. No Vehicles with a combined armor value of 36 (adding front, rear, and side once each) or above are allowed.
If a player's army cannot be built to satisfy the requirements at this points level, contact me to work out an alternative.
Tables for this event will be 3'x4'.
The end of each round for this event is a strict 'dice down'. When time is called, the players finish resolving whatever they are currently engaged in (conducting the shooting of a unit, moving a unit, fighting a single close combat), and then the game ends and winners determined.
Prizes go to the following:
Best Overall - The player with the highest combined Battle Points, Sportsmanship Score, and Painting Score.
Best Painted - The player with the highest painting score
Best Sportsman - The player with the highest sportsmanship score
Scenario 1 - Objectives
This scenario uses the Seize Ground mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: The number of objectives is always 3, and they may not be placed within 10" of the table edge or within 12" of each other. The deployment for this mission is Pitched Battle.
Scenario 2 - Objectives
This scenario uses the Seize Ground mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: the number of objectives is always 5, and they may not be placed within 8" of the table edge or each other. This scenario uses Pitched Battle deployment. All non-vehicle units may claim objectives in this mission. The game lasts until 5 turns have passed or the round ends.
Scenario 3 - Kill Points
This scenario uses the Annihilation mission from the 40k rulebook with the following modification: Troops units are worth 1 KP, all other unit types are worth 2 KPs. Deployment for this mission is Spearhead. The game lasts until 5 turns have passed or the round ends.
Prizes are given out in store credit. Entry fees for the tournament go directly into the prize pool, so the more players we have, the more prizes we have to give out! Last time we had eleven players, so I'm hoping to see even this time!
RSVP on Facebook and get a free candy and soda during the event!
http://www.facebook.com/events/357088850985104/?context=create
And that's it! I've modified the army build rules somewhat from the last one based on some player feedback in the interest of opening the field up for some of the armies that have a harder time with the standard force org chart at such low points.
Regardless, bring your best and I'll see you next Tuesday!
-Dis.

My question is does that cover Necron barges and such with 11/13 armor values. Do you use the "natural" values or the "fielded" values?

I would argue the fielded value would/should be used, since, for all intents and purposes, that IS their value at the start of the game.
I think the rule is to keep overly difficult to kill vehicles out of the equation for balance and fun sake, and until the armor value is reduced accordingly, the barges fall into the category of overly difficult to kill for the purposes of this ruling =).
Otherwise, you could argue "Necrons will be playing, and possibly bringing swarms, my LR can go from 14/14/14 to 3/3/3 in which case it will then become allowable, so can I bring a LR?"
Just my thoughts =D

Travis has stated on the GE Pasadena boards before that Necron Vehicles with Quantum Shielding use the AV13 as their base AV when determining their legality in the mini- RTTs. I would imagine his stance hasn't changed.

I expect no less. By the way, there was Ripster, Streex, and Slammu... who was the other one??
As for the Necron barges, they count their 'shielded' value for army build rules, for reasons previously stated.
And all you have to do to get your candy & soda is ask!

Yes, AV13 is ok as long as the combined value is not 36 or above.

So, necrons cannot show up with anything other than a Nightscythe, but if I show up to this with GK I can rock double psifleman or guard double manticore/medusa? Might want to rethink that one, maybe limiting it to dedicated transports and AV11 front walkers only...

Force org is only: 1 elite/ 1hvy / 1fast and 500 posible points with 1 manditory troops choice. You wont be seeing double psifleman/manticore/medusas.

it's limited to 0-1 for every slot except troops. So, yes you could field a venerable psyrifleman, and a heavy one. And then you have 170 points for anything else. You better hope your opponent is fielding a bunch of rhinos!

Yeah, but Necrons can bring a bunch of Scarabs and a Spyder, go first, and pin their opponent's small handful of models in place in an endless combat with regenerating swarms and deny them any chance at scoring objectives...
So i think they're ok!
On a serious note, at this point level there's going to be mismatches and no set of composition rules that is simple enough to actually use for all comers is going to cover all the bases. It's just how it goes. I think these last couple micro tourneys have been a lot of fun for everyone, regardless of all that, and I look forward to another good one. I keep stumbling toward putting together a little CSM dabble strictly for these little events because it kills me to see all the cool little games going on from my sad little computer desk!
Of course, I know full well that a dabble quickly turns into "Hrm... I wonder if I *should* get all three chaos vindicators for that linebreaker formation", hence my trepidation!

Hmmm... We seem to be of a similar mindset considering I own 1500 points in unassembled Chaos Marines, and I need to build those for the mirror match at WargamesCon...

Goofery aside, I dig this format. Almost like 40k in 40 minutes, only 55. Congrats to Dok for the top spot. And to ... (is he on Dakka?) Andy for his sharp lookin' Tau!
Yes, folks, tau were brought to a tourney ... although, I don't know if he went -- oh, wait, yeah, he said, 1-1-1.
Thanks again, Dis, for a smoothly run event.
