Soooooo the wife has shown alot of interest in the kinnect, which obviously means I have a way to possibly nudge her into a "well the kids would like it hun" argument I havnt owned a 360 since it basically first launched, Ive beena Wii/PS3 guy for years and so know very little about the games and such.

So firstly how IS the Kinnect? I heard once it was really cool to [play but I havnt heard anything on the actual games.

And what are some generally good 360 games? I seem to gravitate to FPS, driving/racing games, and RPGs as well. But really Im not one of those limiting myself types, a good game is a good game.

Lastly, anyone know anywhere to get some good deals on a box set with Kinnect? IE a website that sells them a bit off or something?

Kinect? No clue, though Steel Battalion will be ace by the looks of it.

As for general games, the obvious ones:

Halo
Gears of War

Just look up triple A exclusive titles I guess.

Kinect is actually amazing. I had a Wii first and never quite gelled with it, but the Kinect is just lots of fun. More importantly both boys find it much easier to use than the Wii. although they are only six and eight.

FPS - Halo Reach has got to be worth a look, and if you enjoy that, thanks to the anniversary edition you can effectively work through the Halo story in order.
Other than that most of the other top shooters are multi format so odds are you've already played them.

Driving - Forza is amazing, and well worth a look of anyones time. If you haven't already played it, I can't recommend Burnout Paradise City Ultimate edition enough.

RPG wise, I'd not really recommend Fable 3 so far, social interactions have a lot to be.. desired. However an xbox lets you get access to Mass Effect One, an awesome game, even if I think ME2 is better, but its nice to be able to fully choose all the options in game.
Just tried the demo of Kingdoms of Amalur, and thats looks like its going to be a lot of fun, although once again multi format.

Oh and Kinect Star Wars could be awesome or terrible, however, there is a package deal when it arrives in March that has a R2-D2 themed X-box with the largest harddrive so far. It probably be full price though, but thought I'd raise it in case you are a Star Wars fan.

Kinect is fun for kids, no good games on it yet for more "hardcore" gamers, but it is a nifty little trinket.

Kinnect is good for dancing and dancing only. If you say to yourself everyday "I'd like to do some dancing in front of the TV" then it's a must buy. Otherwise you can pass.

I don't know no nothing about no "words" but actually Dance Central is pretty fun especially if other people are around to laugh at you. Pretty big investment to buy a whole console and peripheral just for that game though.

Some of voice recognition stuff is getting scary mind, Mass Effect 3 might well set a new bar for it if it works as well as the videos are showing.

Kinect adventures is fun as well as the dancing, also the sports games for me work better than the Wii, as you aren't required to hold anything or use that bloody board. I think I've played the bowling game more than most though, just love doing that every so often.

Just look up steel batallion, it combines Kinect with a controller. WWII esque mech game where you actually interact with the crew. (grabbing them and pulling them back in when they panic and try to run for it for instance)

WW2 mech game eh? Now that got my attention.

The wife and I looked up the R2D2 set, and man did we want that, but then we saw the price tag and I said outloud "yea, we would need a pretty generous tax season for that to fit in the budget " So who knows, we've had some pretty awesome tax seasons in the past, fingers crossed

The Kinect (one "n", not two) is an absolutely groundbreaking piece of hardware. It has finally perfected what the Wii attempted. It is the wave of the future. If you're a tech geek, you absolutely must buy one.

Unfortunately, no software developer knows what to do with it. There are no good games for it (just like the only good Wii games are the ones that pretend the motion control doesn't exist), and there doesn't look like there will be any time soon.

The only a things it's good for, at the moment, are:

1) Dancing around and being amazed at how well it can track you.
2) Controlling the DVD player when the remote is out of reach and you're too lazy to go get it.
3) Trolling people using it by yelling commands to mess up what they're trying to do.
4) Taking embarrassing photos/videos of yourself and accidentally posting them for your friend and family to see.
